I got it yesterday, still mostly messing with the tutorials but it's fun for sure :

Damaged Yorktown:

I know it is not a simulation, so it is bound to be arcadish at some level. Is it on a tolerable level though? I usually stay clear of this sort of game because they go waaaay too far into arcadishland.

Needs work but has potential. Campaign game has issues that need to be worked out and air part also needs work. The number of planes is limited and scouting is tedious.

I haven’t play too much yet but initial impression is surface to surface battles are fun and fairly functional atm.

If dev keeps up on improving the game it has great potential.

Wow that is great to hear.

I loved Battle of the Atlantic by the same team, but because of the many negative reviews I will probably wait some time before I get the new game.

Game was definitely early release, but the devs are committed to it. Yes many gave bad reviews, but many show signs of not bothering to do the tutorials and taking the time to understand the game. I went through the tutorials twice and will do some again. It was nice to see the devs reply on the Steam discussions and many of us have expressed support and are really rooting for this to succeed. The devs have expressed they are 100% behind improving the game and fixing bugs. An update was already put out.

I'm not going to sugar coat it. There are issues. I'm leery of starting a Campaign as I'm sure a future update might break a game in progress. The AI needs tweeking. I would like to see an authentic number of aircraft and have suggested some changes. I would also like to see multi monitor support. Simple things like changing paths sent on the map doesn't seem possible-or maybe I just haven't figured out. I suggested they take a look at a game like Command Modern Operations to see how control of assets is handled.

I will say setting your aircraft to attack a ship and seeing then bomb, torpedo or strafe a ship is a thing of beauty to watch. The planes and ships look really good. Level bombing is something I think should be given the option to automate, same with hunting subs. The problem here is it takes too much concentration and effort and you have to zoom in the map. In a busy situation you could lose track or not be paying attention to something else. I would like to have the option to select units on the map and just give them order to do things like attack and have the AI handle, while I micromanage 1 unit and have the option to jump to another one.

Its obvious by the menu they want to expand this to the Atlantic and Med. That means German, Italian and British units. The is currently 1 Indian Ocean scenario in addition to the Pacific.

In spite of the rough edges at release I'm behind this and looking forward to seeing where it goes.
