I want an arriving train to trigger a plane taking off.

Plane Takeoff logic OK as tested using JimTM's "How To Make Planes Takeoff..." from the manual.

I am using a Check Zone to trigger the plane takeoff.  I am new to using them so I need to know if I'm setting it up correctly.

Check Zone Input:
A Target Link from a timer enabled by a Mission Begin MCU.
Check Zone Output:
A Target Link to a timer Target Linked to the Command Takeoff MCU.
Check Zone Distance Type:

'Closer' so the train triggers the MCU upon entering.

Check Zone Zone Type:
'Spherical', 50m to detect the train without being accidentally triggered by any other aircraft.

OK.  Well all that works just fine.  I can feel my brain getting bigger.  ?

So I still have this question....

Question:  Would it be better to just set the Coalition (Germany) or Object Link the Check Zone to the German train engine?  I understand I cannot do both.

Redirect:  What I did was set the Check Zone to Coalition.  Is there a benefit to linking the object instead?  Or is it 6 of one, half a dozen of the other?

TIA

Object link to the train. Or even better, use a waypoint object linked to the train instead. You can target link out of a waypoint to trigger commands for other objects, ie planes taking off in this case

You can use either a plane type or a vehicle type to trigger a check zone. In this case a plane won't trigger it if Vehicle and Coalition are true but not Plane and Coalition.

If you are only concerned with one vehicle, like this train, use an object link. If you want any vehicle or plane, like say a bunch of trucks and you don't know which one will arrive first, use coalition. Honestly if there are no other vehicles around to set it off, its 6 vs.1/2 dozen.

Thanks Jagermiester.

My confusion came from the manual stating that both Inputs and Outputs were Object Links.  I failed to understand the (Optional) part about using Object Links.

Thank you for clarifying that.

Well, the input is the trigger to activate it and the object or coalition it is linked to. The output is a target trigger.

I also do this if I'm done with it.  Deactivate it so it doesn't fire again if the object circles around.

In this particular instance I'm leaving the CZ as a sphere on 50 meters high in a steep Kuban valley.  The train will not be coming through again so since it works now I'm letting sleeping dogs lie.

However the deactivate idea is a good one and I will remember that when I use planes.

Thanks for all your help sir.
