AndyJWest Posted February 1, 2021 Posted February 1, 2021 Your delivery may be a little late... ? This here contraption is the Fardier de Cugnot. Or rather, a replica of it - the original is in the Musée des Arts et Métiers, Paris. An interesting first attempt at a steam-powered road vehicle, dating from 1769. Not entirely successful, being slow, underpowered, and unreliable. And unstable due to the boiler being hung off the front, which I suspect here has been at least partly counteracted by the cannon slung underneath. Though Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot took the trouble to include a reverse gear (or rather ratchet), he seems not to have considered brakes necessary (or possibly not heard of them). Hence the inevitable first automobile accident... 2 1

Very interesting, thank you for sharing!
Bremspropeller Posted February 4, 2021 Posted February 4, 2021 You don't need brakes - just point the cannon the other way... 1

It's really nice. As soon as I find the Four Roses I'll try it, I've heard good things about it. The Bulleit was meh! for me, but I did like the Elija Craigm but I wouldn't buy it often. Had a real tobacco kick to it. I'll have to get some Blantons. Only had it once with a buddy about 30 years ago. 1
CUJO_1970 Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 (edited) Blantons is top shelf stuff. Seriously all of it is good (and yes I've had all of them), and I might re-rank them depending on the day - but Blanton's will always be #1 out of that particular lineup. If you want a truly good low price bourbon: Evan Williams BIB (Bottled in Bond). Stay thirsty my friend! EDIT: Just finished a bottle of Woodford Reserve Double Oaked. Started a bottle of Knob Creek. Enjoy responsibly and in moderation of course. Edited February 6, 2021 by CUJO_1970

Enjoy responsibly and in moderation of course. I only drink and fly. Cracked open some Knob Creek last night just to compare to the Buffalo Trace. I find the Buffalo sweeter and the Knob Creek earthier. I've tried Woodford once or twice, definitely nice, very clean and refined. Almost too clean for my taste. (But then maybe I'm FOS.) Now I can't remember if it was the Elijah Craig or the Evan Williams (since that you mentioned it) that had the tobacco kick. I didn't find it off-putting, just noticeable. Blantons.... I think it's $80 a bottle here. I'll give it a go.
Bremspropeller Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Is there a way to drink liquor in your rocking-chair on the porch in the South, without being hit in the face by a sack of bricks after just one little nibble? I mean, it's hot and humid in the summer...

I mean, it's hot and humid in the summer... I drink bourbon starting in late September through about March, for the most part. Gin and Tequila the rest of the year. I only drink bourbon rarely in the summertime and then always after dark...the exception being when I'm down on the Gulf of Mexico. 2
