So there I was sitting on the ground after ditching my shot up plane with the cockpit open and listening to the sound of the planes flying by. The 109 with a slight whistle, the Yak and LaGG with a nice grumble but all sound uniquely different and not like weed whackers of the glorified other title.

And then I realized - that is not one of the complaints here on this board. There are others, sure, but the one that raged for literally years on end is absent from here, and its funny to see how the other title is lifted on a pedestal for being so great but it missed by so much on many areas for years on end and the one it could never get right - audio.

So go ditch in a combat zone and just listen, it is pretty amazing and something that hasn't been heard in all of the years of the other title - even with modified sound files.

I agree, sound can make all the difference, already the sound effects in BoS are very good, that clunk of the under carriage being packed away in the 109 after take off, the distinct difference in the engine note of all the aircraft, and the impact of those bombs going off.

I remember in RoF, being shoot up and force landing in a field near a village, it must have been a Sunday because all was quiet except for a church bell ringing in the distance !!  I also remember the difference good sound made to Sturmovik 1946 after installing my first mod.

Anybody else like to comment on that attention to detail which BoS in very good at !

I'm in complete agreement.  All the things the dev team got right with BOS ... at 51 percent ... is amazing.  I know there are MANY who believe that CloD is the gold standard for graphics.  I think it has its strong points but overall it can't come close to BOS in the graphics, sound, or any other departments.  IMHO.  When my head was leaving bloody dents in the wall during the disastrous release of CLoD, I thought numerous times "Why can't 777 take over this cluster "F" and it actually happened.  Thank goodness!!!  BOS in it's present condition is the best WW2 combat sim that has ever been created. Add another 49 percent an we will have a masterpiece.

I'm also in complete agreement. and while on the subject, you do from time to time come across the unexpected. I was out flying last night [109 G2] honing my skills with ground attack [ trains/trucks,] but I strayed over a Russian airfield [7.30am]

search lights coming on and AAA, so i played a game of cat and mouse with the search lights, which will go out if you fly away a little, and if you can pin point their position, double back and take them out, great fun ! to any new comers out there I recommend it, remember to set you take off time to early morning, enjoy.

I think the russian planes sound like cessnas, the latest russian one has real radial like sound, but the inlines sound way too polished and has lost the raw feeling that the first few versions had.

I think it's a great point to remember all the really great things this sim does do right.  I hit a train awhile ago and got hit by some flak...I brought it down close to the tracks and could hear the locomotive chugging along, with some wind in the background.....Well...I would rather have been still flying and not crashed behind enemy lines...but...

Sounds in my opinion really add to the immersion and this sim is leaps and bounds ahead of things in that area.  Damage modeling......I really like as well.  First train locomotive I hit with a good burst of cannon...just erupted in an explosion.   Ground impact....burning flames...smoke trails....crackling fires......heat waves even rippling up from burning vehicles.   The list goes on and on......All this...and we've got an Alpha version....just over 50 percent finished.  Suffice to say, we have a lot to be thankful for and with a little bit of patience this sim has the potential to be on my HD for a long, long time.

I love the sound FX, especially the 109 F's engine. It reminds me of the Buchons from Battle of Britain.

The sound is pretty amazing in BoS. It really helps with the immersion of the whole thing and they even seem to have the accuracy of the sounds in terms of positioning and the delay it takes for sound to reach you down pat as well. Oleg always said the IL-2 Forgotten Battles engine was doing the same thing but it really didn't seem to be.

I'm undecided... they sort of sound like tractors. Maybe with some more growl but they don't sound as good as the 109s or IL-2s for sure. Are there any aircraft flying at airshows today with the original VK105?

This Yak-3M sounds brilliant but its using an Allison engine.

BoS sounds awesome indeed, I was really blown away when tried virtual 5.1 headphones here though.

See they were great on release, but after a few patches they had been cleaned and polished and now the lagg and the yak1 just sound too clean and not like an engine from nearly 70 years ago. Listen to that IL2 in the video, even the ingame IL2 sounds too clean.
