for Rift-S: IL2_1946_BAT-v.3.8.5_VorpX_Opentrack_Logitech-X52_settings_v01

Hi All,
attached my current settings for my Rift-S.
For basic information concerning BAT and VorpX I recommend:
https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php/topic,62928.0.html
(Thanks very much, UberDemon!)
-IL2 1946 BAT conf.ini
-IL2 1946 BAT /Users/doe/settings.ini
-VorpX IL2 1946 [Ekull] profile, only a bit changed
(Thanks very much, Ekull!)
-Opentrack: 2 settings, 1 for "normal seat position" and 1 for forward / down seat for e.g. FW190, to avoid hitting with your head the canopy when looking upwards.
-Logitech X52 Professional HOTAS settings

Note: I am using vorpX 4:3 custom resolutions, in vorpX Ingame Menu choose Pixel1:1
If your system does not support customs resolution or you are using vorpX custom wide screen resolutions:
-try out in VorpX ingame menu Letterbox1 or Letterbox2 instead of Pixel1:1
-change IL2 conf.ini to the required resolution and WideScreenFoV=1
Best regards

So do you get any jidders when moving your head with Geomatry mode enabled?

Hi,

between ca. Mai and August I had some major issues when rotating my head. I asked in the VorpX forum but I did not get direct help for this.

In generally it seemed to me that it is better to use highter resolutions and less or no antializing, ...

My current res. is:

width=2560
height=1920

With these settings was let me say acceptable but not good.

But anyway I flew ca. 30 il2dcg campaign missions from September to November.

Since the last 2 VorpX updates the issues when moving your head seems to a bit better.

Last week I had for ca. 4 days a pure Opentrack issue: Although the data Input from the Rift was good the data output from Opentrack was total chaotic and flying was not possible. But after 4 day this problem vanished. Please check your Opentrack (if you use Opentrack).

After I read your message I flew 2 Standard Mission Editor quick missions (Berlin, FW190-A6 vs 12 B17s, HS192 Tank Busting over the Krim) : Yes, some issues when rotating head fast but for me acceptable to have some fun.

I will try tomorrow the the Geometry Mode as you reported.

Best Regards

I use a rift S as well so i wonder why you use such Resolution. The Native res per eye is 1280x1440 and higher upscale of this would be 1920x2160 (which i personaly use) with 2560x1920 you render to many pixels for nothing because you will never see them (in the width).

While Geomatry is nice and all i mostly fly in 2D mode with vorpx and only sometimes switch to geomatry 3d to see the scale of everything :D

I notice that when in main menu in 3D Geomatry mode its mooth... obviously and it runs 160fps or so then in mission editor if you open a Map its all fine until you zoom in and you start to see the 3D map then it like instantly snaps to 80fps and when moving your head it has this jidder effect again, so im pretty sure its not part of opentrack(which ya i use) also i notice in other games with 3D Geomatry there is not such issue like arma 3 which runs at like 40fps.

I tryed alot but it seems like that vorpx + il2 engines (quake? maybe i should try quake) and rift S ASW dont work togheter to well.

Hi,

very interesting to meet someone who is playing il2 1946 with VorpX, Opentrack and Rift-S too!

-Resolutions: I am sure that your resolutions are the best, but when I tried these "narrow res." last year there were problems with some other settings and so I used the 4:3  resolutions, But I think I will try out the resolution suggested by you.

-2D/3D: I think we are using VorpX with IL2 in a different way.

In general I have 3D always activated (2D only in some missions with planes with gunners, to avoid the flickering when they are shooting)

When I start IL21946 (BAT), I use my Monitor at first. I use the Monitor to select the mission and only after I have pressed menu button to fly I put on my Rift-S.

-Issue with jiddering / low fps during head rotation:

-I was never able use pure tracking only with VorpX, because I had always problems with recentering (In CLOD Blitz it works).

But maybe this could be the best method if you know how to set up. Maybe you ask in the VorpX forum.

-my first working solution for 1946 / VorpX / Rifts was with tracking only with Opentrack, this was in march 2020.

-between April 2020 and May 2021 I was able combine tracking with Opentrack and VorpX tracking simultaneously.

With this combination Head Rotation was very smooth, but the strain for the eyes was a bit highter

-since last May/June major trouble with flickering / low fps during head rotation began. I was short before to cease flying il2 1946, but then I was  able to use it again with only Opentrack tracking. It's not perfect but for me it's great to fly il2 1946 with VR, a game that I have since 2001/2006.

At the moment I do not have enough time available for much more further testing. But it would be great if you could solve the current tracking / head rotation problems.

Best Regards

I still try to look into that, altough at this point i tryed alot already but i think i still have some ideas. Ill probably try more on Weekends not sure yet, time is always limited :D

Oh btw. I also use not 1:1 but letterbox 1 selection when using that res (actually every res i just prefer letterbox over 1x1 pixel)

Its also hard to boost the framerate in 1946, i even tryed running on 720x810 :D (run actually worse).

I use Opentrack but in vorpx i didnt active the TrackIR Setting, i find it that way it gives me much better freedom, kinda odd.

P.s. and i assume you use the NG Cam mod which needs to be add manualy into BAT. That allows one to have higher FOV which is required for vorpx obviously :D 114-120° seems to be perfect for default fov.

Well for the longest time i refused to get vorpx.... but after they reduced the price i kinda couldnt rest mostly because i am right now so much into 1946 with BAT mod :D

Well imo in 2D mode its pretty awesome and in 3D Its quite sureal but it that jidder annoys me personaly, but i think that depends on the headset, i saw people with HTC Headset that didnt had this issue if i recall correct.

Before that i used free app called Desktop+ on steamVR that was only 2D obviously and didnt work as well as Vorpx so even in 2D im more than happy.

(2D Means you stil have tracking and can look around but its only one screen rendering instead of 2 like 3D Mode, so you dont have as much of an "BIG" Feel in 2D Mode)

Hi,

thanks for the info with the lettebox 1 selection for VorpX, I think I will try out when I  have enough time.

Concerning FOV Im think that I am a bit an outsider: I use always FOV of ca. 80° to 90° and I never use zoom during flight.

I know that in respect of multiplayer dogfights or offline dogfights against aces the limited fov is an disadvantage but for my campaigns I select AI level normal.

But this is only my personal point of view.

Hi,

for me it was a good invest, I am using it since 1.5 years and flew maybe some 150 - 200 campaign missions and many quick missions.

But from my personal point of view:

-I could never guarantee that it works well on your computer.

-you must invest very much time for testing and trying to find solutions for many problems. And maybe you will never a solution you like.

-IL2 1946 with VorpX and VR is maybe interesting for people, who are using this game for a very long time (I use IL2 since 20 years) and have because of that a special "emotional" relationship to IL2. If you are used to fly with newer flightsims like Great Battles and other modern VR Games you maybe will dislike the graphics and the not so perfect VR.

-IL2 1946 + VorpX + Opentrack + VR Headset +GPU drivers + Windows  is from my point of view a very complex combination of many components, that all have to work together properly.

So there is from my point of view always the possibilty, that after an "bad update" of one this components the whole thing does not work anymore.

Best regards

I wish someone would get a VR mod working for 1946! Glad someone is enjoying it but I've tried vorpx with 1946 and imo the experience is just not very good.

It really seems like a no brainer, old flight sim that can run on any hardware would be perfect for VR and plenty of other old games have been converted.

After having trouble sind june with Tracking / low FPS when rotating my head I backed up today my let me say sufficient IL2, Opentrack and VorpX settings and tried out some other solutions. The whole testing process went more and more  chaotically and I was short before to surrender but then by pure luck everything was fine and head tracking / Head rotation was really smooth again as it was before last june. I tried to back up again everything and asked in the VorpX forum how to back up really all settings.

I flew one perfect BAT  il2dcg campaign mission over Berlin against B24s escorted by P38s.

But I am absolute not sure whether it will work next time...

Hi,

today I tested the res. 1920x2160 that you suggested with letterbox1.

Looks really good in 3D in a scramble mission (FW190-A6 / skin FW_190A_6_Babenz_sw.bmp by eMeL).

But I am using it with a further reduced FOV of 70-75 degree to have the feeling to be direct behind the 3D gun sight when I lean forward.

Best regards

Ah thats nice. I personaly upgradet to a new Headset, the Reverb G2. Ehm and well if i go into 3D Mode it is still stuttery of dooooom so i guess its just a vorpx + il2 problem :D

But when i play i play usaly in VR but 2D Mode.

What I found out that stuttering during head rotation depends of the number of objects, especially objects on the ground (placed and of the map). If you fly ca. 5km high and higher these details are not shown and head rotation is much better.

I flew some frontal / head on attacks on formations of ca.10 B17 / B24 over Berlin without issues.

So i would say it's possible to fly P51, P47 escort missions and german intercept missions at high altitude with VorpX without having the head rotation issue.

I've just started using the Reverb G2. Actually, I'm a VR newbie so I don't really know what I'm doing. I can see VorpX is working because my monitor is showing a stereoscopic image of IL-2 1946 but whenever I put the VR headset on, it automatically switches to the WMR app. I know this is a stupid question but does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Sorry, I don't know. I use a Rift-S by Oculus / Meta.

The original post is now 3.5 years old.

As I mentioned I flew successful from ca. march 2020 to may 2021 with vorpx with stereo.

In may / june 2021 the issue with stuttering during head rotation appeared.

Since this flying with vorpx with stereo does not work well with my computer / VR headset, but with 2D it is possible.

During the last year I made only some few test with IL2 1946 with VR. Mostly I fly with IL2 GB and with War Thunder (SP Missions) with VR.

But maybe I will try 1946 with vorpx again.
