Slow-Running Cut-Out? What's that?

What's the "Slow-Running Cut-Out"? ...and why is it followed on the controls options by two other lines, respectively "#1 Slow-Running Cut-Out" and "#2 Slow-Running Cut-Out"?

You cut the fuel flow to either engine 1 or 2 to turn the engine off while the engine runs on idle power.

Thank you ZachariasX. Till now, in order to turn off the engine, I've always cut either the magnetos or the fuel cock. Today, after reading your response, I bound a few keys to those "slow-running cut-out" controls, tried on board a 109-E7/Z... with no success, this didn't even produce any effect on the events window of my sim.

1. As I said, I've always cut either the magnetos or the fuel cock when I wanted to turn off the engine. Are those "slow-running cut-out" controls necessary when turning engines off?

2. Those controls didn't work when trying on board one Bf 109... does this mean that the "slow-running cut-out" controls are not present in all types of aircraft?

In this game, it is probably irrelevant if you do it as I mentioned or as you did so far. In the real aircraft, there‘s reasons why to do it as stated in the manual, but here, none of these subtleties are either modelled or consequencial.

Yep, such was my suspicion in fact. Thank you Zacharias.

EDIT : I did a test on board one Hurricane DH 5-20 (100 oct), and yes, the slow-running cut-out works fine. So, I guess our preference should go to this procedure when turning off the engine of a Spitfire, a Hurricane, or any other aircraft equipped with a slow-running cut-out. Thank you again, Zacharias, you helped a lot.

"Slow Running Cut Out" is a British thing, work for Hurricane (the red tilt control in panel is animated), work for Spit, but the ring at right lower instrument panel is not animated, have not checked Gladiator.

Is animated and individual for Blenheim and Beaufighter, not idea about Wellington - after see that gross error in their compass I promise don't touch this plane again (and for a while, CloD). ?

Anyway, use Slow Running Cut Out or turn off Fuel Cock, or turn off Magnetos* will stop engine, without any penalty if don't use the correct procedure for this or that plane, since the "Physical wear" promised by O.Maddox for engines was sweep under the rung by latter project manager.

* If I remember correct turn off magnetos is the only option for Fiat G.50 since this plane is more unfinished than others and their fuel cock don't work.

I think the fuel cock in a G.50 is working in the sim... I'll check that later. Anyway, Sokol1, thank you for your kind response.

I proceeded to a few tests and I think you're right, so I created the following discussion thread: https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/69088-on-the-fiat-g50-fuel-cock/

Thank you Sokol, take care.
