Hey there,

what a marvelous tool!

The Typhoon Mk.I are materialized by EF.2000. Is it any way I can change that myself ? (TacView Advanced 1.90, Steam)

Hi LoupVert! Could you please share an ACMI file including the  Typhoon Mk.I? I will see what I can do.

Sure! That one, attached, does.

(Had to zip it, the file that is, so I could upload it here)

For example, whenever it is supported by your flight simulator and your aircraft, you can now display the flight controls position as well as the pilot sight. Together with the optional display of aircraft course, you have now all the tools to analyze the exact behavior of the pilot and pinpoint habits to improve stick and rudder skills.

Could you detail what one needs to do to display the flight controls positions ?
I've checked the Display Controls Position in the settings, to no avail though.

Hi, the position of the controls is not currently available from IL-2, so that option will not work. Sorry to disappoint.

Thanks for the clarification, anyway ! ;)

Hello,

Thanks for new version, now Typhoons are properly detected, which was not the case in the previous version.

I love Tacview but there are still many planes not modelled/recognized in Tacview. It feels left a litle bit behind compared to DCS.

I just spotted another stealthy B-2 airplane in IL2 Kuban map.

I am sending the .acmi file. It appears at 11' near Ol' hovka. It is an Arado - Ar 234 B-2.

Do we get a special discount on Tacview product for intercepting planes not modelled in Tacview yet?

Will the map of Normandy be added to the pack at some point?

Hi,

Thanks for letting me know about the Ar 234B-2. I will add it to the database so that a more appropriate 3D model will be used.

We count on users to let us know about planes that Tacview does not recognize, we appreciate it and we are happy to add them all.

The map of Normandy is there in Tacview 1.9.0. Is it not visible for you?

Indeed you cannot have both open at the same time. You can close IL-2 and view the replay in Tacview.

Just loaded up 1.9.  Changed zero settings from previous 1.8.8 install.  Loaded up an ACMI from a recent multi-player fight in IL2 Normandy map.  Looks pretty, and very nice to see the Normandy map, but the Georef is off.  Appears as if we are shifted a couple of KM to the east, ie. a fight that took place over the beach vic. 0926 Boulogne-Sur-Mer, is now depicted a grid square or so inland vic. grid 0927.  Assume there is a setting or something I need to tweak?

It is expected that the map does not match exactly in all spots, since IL-2 is a 2D world and Tacview is a 3D world. But maybe we can improve it - can you please share that ACMI file, and a screenshot showing where the fight was supposed to take place vs where it was displayed?

Hi, if any aircraft is being displayed using a wildly inappropriate 3D object, or the basic "paper airplane", please let me know, and share an ACMI file.

We can't always use the exact correct object but we can make sure it is an appropriate object.

SPAD 7.C1 180hp - in Tacview show as A-10 Thunderbolt II or E-2 Hawkeye or Xian H-6  at the same time in one recording

Nieuport 28.C1 - in Tacview show as Po-2

There are also ww1 ground forces :

Thank you. I have attempted to fix all of this in the latest beta: https://tacview.net/download/beta/

For the American Detachment and British Detachment, I can't fix it because the issue is that the objects are being exported by IL-2 as tanks instead of infantry. I have reached out to a contact we have on the IL-2 team about this.

To help you wait during Tacview 2 development, here is a brand-new maintenance update for Tacview 1.9.

As always, with better support for your favorite flight simulators as well as real life data. There are also minor improvements to the stability and performances based on your feedback.

We thank you for your precious feedback. Your requests and suggestions are always taken into consideration. While some might not make it into Tacview 1, they are certainly considered to be part of Tacview 2 from the ground up.

Speaking of Tacview 2: The new architecture, multiplatform UI and Vulkan renderer are now running well (including Linux). We are currently working on the brand-new terrain engine. This is the last difficult point of the project to “prototype”. After that, everything should take shape more quickly. We are eager to reach a point where we can deliver a first closed alpha to begin large scale testing and feedback gathering.

Fly safe!

Tacview 1.9.3 is available now!

Download: https://tacview.net/download

• Release Date: Wed, 24 Jan 2024
• Operating System: Windows® 32-bit / 64-bit
• File Size: 775.0 MB

First, we would like to wish you all a happy new year 2024!

Thank you very much for all the invaluable feedback and support you provided during the last year. We appreciate every community addon, simulator improvement and bug report. While we do not have the time to answer as many of your questions as we would like, we are doing our best to take all your feedback into account. Some improvements have already been implemented, other are coming, and some which require more thoughts and work will be probably come in Tacview 2.

Speaking of Tacview 2, as you can guess seeing the slow pace of change in Tacview 1.9, our focus has now mainly shifted to the future: Progress has been steady over the past year.

So, here's a glimpse of what we've achieved so far in Tacview 2 pre-alpha:

The new 3D engine is operational: It is a blend of modern technology and simplicity: Fully multithreaded and built on Vulkan, it's optimized for performance and portability. While it can display both photo-real and synthetic data effectively, its focus remains to render a clear view of the battlefield, even on modest systems. Most features have been implemented and we can already display as many simultaneous 3D and 2D views as we want, being limited only by the host system capabilities.

The UI engine is up and running. Unified across all devices, from PC to tablets, it will provide a coherent user experience. We've made progress in the UX design, and the final UI implementation will follow later this year. And yes, customizable skins and dark mode will eventually be an option!

All terrain engine core features have been implemented, such as level-of-detail, subdivision, and clipping. This means more details and improved performance compared to Tacview 1.9 – think of zooming in from space on a pebble! The Earth's ellipsoid shape is now accurately drawn: its shape, distances and properties are visually accurate. Plus, the sun and moon positions are realistically simulated which is useful for both dogfight and navigation.

On the engine side Tacview 2 is fully multithreaded to provide improved performance on modern hardware and to give even smoother experience compared to Tacview 1. It is currently being developed and tested on both on Windows and Linux (such as Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian), to guarantee portability and towards other operating systems such as macOS, iOS, and Android in the future.

Tacview 2 is all about modding! It is a bag of Lego: It offers the fundamental blocks to record data and to run debriefings. Everything we use and see on screen, from the free camera to the dogfight control zone display are addons written in Lua, JavaScript, C++, C#, and Python. Most things you see on screen can be modified, improved, and extended by you, the community. Sharing addons will be much more streamlined: you will only have to download and double click on a zip file, and Tacview will take care of the rest. Later we will also support the Steam Workshop, so we can install new maps, objects, and tools with just a click!

I can’t wait to put Tacview 2 into your hands and see what the community is going to do with it!

So, what are the next steps?

Telemetry Engine & ACMI Data Format: We are currently developing the new telemetry engine and improved ACMI data format improving upon the existing generation for greater performance, accuracy, and flexibility.

Data Import/Export: Implementation of telemetry data import and export is underway. Yes, Tacview 2 will seamlessly read Tacview 1.9 data.

Online Debriefing: First, we are going to make Tacview 2 compatible with Tacview 1 online debriefing. Then we are going to improve it further to allows automatic background download of the telemetry data. No more tedious manual file sharing between the participants.

Final terrain engine: We will then work on the final phase of the terrain engine, enabling texture and elevation data streaming from your favorite servers such as Bing Maps, NASA, and MapQuest, among others.

The final touch to reach an alpha version will be the new UI. Written from the ground up, it will be modern, clean, and intuitive. It will improve on Tacview’s strengths, such as non-bloated design, while offering a more intuitive organization of the tools of and options which will both work as well on a PC wide screen and a tablet touch screen.

Best wishes, and happy flying!
Vyrtuoz & BuzyBee

Sry if this has been answered before. I have old .trk files that I would like to view in tacview but did not record the original .trk file with tacview, so there is no .acmi files for them. Is it possible at all to create a new .acmi file from the old .trk files?

Thanks!

This is the dumbest problem.  Somehow my 'playback control bar' has defaulted to a maximized undock config when selected.  It exceeds the res of my monitor.  I can turn it off again with the x in the upper right, but cannot manipulate it to get it to redock.  Tried altering my registry - did nothing, the lines under Windows come back when I restart.  Tried reinstalling Tacview.  Still happening.  Thoughts?  Can't use it w/o the playback bar.

Breaking the Radio Silence!

I have one foot in each camp: as both a simmer and a developer, I understand the frustration of not hearing about your favorite product for years, wondering if the project is still alive or making progress. On the other hand, I know the fear of communicating about an unfinished product, afraid of being misunderstood or misinterpreted.

Today, I've decided to break the radio silence and not just talk to you—but show you where Tacview 2 stands. This titanic project, started years ago, is very much alive and moving forward, albeit slowly but surely. I'm just as eager as you to see it completed. At the same time, I don't want to rush it like I did with Tacview 1 back then, so I've decided to take the time necessary to ensure everything is done properly.

I invite you to visit the dedicated page I’ve just created to learn more about the current state of the project.

I tried searching but kept coming across the "Try again in "XX" seconds". Really makes search a PITA.

My question: How can I make Tacview render the aircraft properly instead of the generic "paper plane" graphic?

I tried searching but kept coming across the "Try again in "XX" seconds". Really makes search a PITA.

My question: How can I make Tacview render the aircraft properly instead of the generic "paper plane" graphic?

Hi, thanks for reporting this. Please send the ACMI file to support@tacview.net so we can add this aircraft to the database.

Hi BuzyBee.

Is there somewhere that I can see what meshes have been done for IL2? When I look in %ProgramData%\Tacview\Data\Meshes\ there are only three planes.

There are no files at all in %APPDATA%\Tacview\Data\Meshes\

In many of the screenshots in this thread it seems that there are planes rendered correctly. I have the latest version of Tacview and it is a paid version.

Hi, it's normal that you don't see any meshes at %APPDATA%\Tacview\Data\Meshes\. You can see all the available meshes and the database here: https://github.com/Vyrtuoz/Tacview and the instructions for extending and modifying the database are here: https://tacview.net/documentation/database/

But if you send me the ACMI file I will be happy to add/fix it natively so that it will be available to everyone.
