WM_KMS Posted January 20, 2021 Posted January 20, 2021 And what controls it, the higher I go the more % it shows and eventually I can't use my throttle to reduce altitude without overspeeding the engine
ZachariasX Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 It is another lever (and another axis that you should map on your throttle) that opens the throttle past a setting that gives it maximum rated power at low altitude. This means, you can open altitude throtte only to compensate for the thinner air as you climb. Throttling back on the regular throttle will reduce power as it usually does and like that you will not abuse (by overstressing) your engine. Essentially, you can leave altitude throttle full open and just progress the throttle only until you hear bad sounds from the engine. Only at 1000 m or so (not sure about the critical altitude) you can open throttle fully without overtaxing the engine then.
J2_Jakob Posted January 21, 2021 Posted January 21, 2021 (edited) At roughly every 500m of altitude you can open the altitude throttle by 1/3, while running full "regular" throttle. 500m = 1/3 1000m = 2/3 1500m and above = full Keep an eye on the fuel... If you run both fully open for longer time, it will mean higher consumption. If you want to reduce altitude quickly without overstressing the engine, throttle down before the dive and use side-slip during the dive if needed. Just watch the RPM needle and don't let it hang at 1600. Edited January 21, 2021 by J2_Jakob

When it gets to 100% my throttle no longer works, I can't reduce my throttle or the altitude throttle, I looked in settings for altitude throttle but couldn't find it

They have to be assigned to separate controls.
