Beebop Posted January 19, 2021 Posted January 19, 2021 (edited) I am using the flag from the ME 'Flag' menu, the banner that rises up the pole. 1. Why does the flag always face North regardless of the orientation I set in it's Properties menu? 2. I selected United States as the country yet it shows the British Union Jack. Why? IckyATLAS Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 It is not a bug. The flag is an animated element that will float to a given angle according to windspeed set in the atmospheric conditions. The flag is on a ring and will turn according to the wind direction (as set in atmospheric parameters) and not the orientation of the pole. I use it in my missions and I was also surprised at the beginning but it works very well in fact once we understand how it works. 1
Beebop Posted January 22, 2021 Author Posted January 22, 2021 (edited) AHHHH. Thanks Icky/ATLAS. Again objects are without any clarification from the creators leaving the community to suss it out. Very frustrating. It's like buying a car having never having one before and there is no owners manual. So they are like the balloons. With no wind they will point North by default. If you want to "orient" them add some wind. I will test that. I have found that as little as .5m/s of wind will move a balloon around. I will make sure that windage is set for ground level only if I am using it just to "orient" flags. Now the other question, country....below is an example of what happens when you have Linked Objects on a field that also has a flag: The attached shows what happens when you set the country (blue label) on a field with one Allied/Central Powers country and one Axis/Entente country linked object. If both are USSR then all flags are Russian. If both Linked entity's are German then all flags are German. The shot in the previous post the Linked Objects were United States and I got a British Union Jack. Again some kind of documentation is needed. We can't expect JimTM and Prangster to have all the answers. Their "mission" was giving us a guide to getting the good guys and the bad guys fighting, not Home Decor. I guess my "problem" is I am one of the the smaller niche groups (mission builders) in the small niche group of flight simmers and until Flight simming becomes as popular as MMO's (which will be never), both groups are SOOL. ? Thanks again for the help. Edited January 22, 2021 by Beebop 1
Madov Posted January 22, 2021 Posted January 22, 2021 (edited) To Beebop, please elucidate how you got the union flag to show. I have a mission on the Rheinland map with all objects, at least at the home airbase, linked as Great Britain so why does my station flag pole insist on the hammer and sickle? I want to be able to taxi past the jack and think of England, cor blimey! Does the presence of Germany linked objects on another part of the map somehow affect a remote airbase flag? In the mission I have all "Friendly" linked entities as United States. I have some German tanks linked as enemy. They are far from the field. Those are the only two countries I used in the mission. I have no idea why when Great Britain is chosen you don't get a Union Jack. I have no idea why when I picked US I got a Union Jack. I have chosen US before and gotten a Russian flag. In my tests I could never get a US themed flag. I'm not sure there is one. Usually I only get Russian and German flags. At this time I have not tried using flags in flying Circus missions so until my test had never seen an FC themed flag. The mission is on the Kuban map but it doesn't make sense why the map would, or should, matter. This and where the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail are will remain mysteries for the foreseeable future. We'll all have better chances of winning the lottery before we are given the key to this conundrum I'm afraid.
Madov Posted January 24, 2021 Posted January 24, 2021 Thanks for that mate, I shall try and see what happens if I change all my linked GBs to US and take it from there. I do wonder if there is some internal logic which comes from the game engine written by a little gnome in a dark forest.
