Panzerlang Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 I did some googling and discovered the bailout is in 1st-person if you've padlocked any other plane (or ground object). I mapped one button to both padlock closest plane AND eject and it works. Remember to turn on padlock in the realism settings after mapping the key (camera controls for padlock). So much more immersive (on those rare occasions it's needed, usually at very low altitudes and the panic that ensues). 1 3 3
JtD Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 I think it would be more useful for me if you found a way to padlock the enemy and eject him. 7
Freycinet Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 Cool that you set both actions to just one button press. Manually padlocking someone else would be pretty stressful while trying to jump out.
firdimigdi Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 (edited) A couple of months later, bug report: padlocking closest plane causes me to eject. On a more serious note: I wonder if this works out well in VR, having an OBE while ejecting is quite jarring. Edited January 18, 2021 by Firdimigdi

Unlike in 2D, where the mouse doesn't work for panning around, VR allows you to look around (including up at your chute).

Not necessarily: if you put LCtrl-E in as an additional option for padlock close aircraft without changing the default, but do not change the bail out line in settings, then RCtrl-F8 will still work as padlock without bailing you out. This is neat: but sadly you still revert to the pointless 3rd person view after a few seconds. Edited January 18, 2021 by unreasonable

unreasonable Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 So VR is not a complete waste of time then. Interesting - perhaps something to do with whether the padlocked plane is still inside some set distance? Anyway, still worth doing and worth a green arrow! Thanks for the heads up on this. I do not usually use padlock, but since I do use custom realism settings for SP I may as well have it ticked and use this.
Yogiflight Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 When it is doable that easily, I wonder, why it is not yet added as an option by the Devs. It was asked for, more than one time. 1
Panzerlang Posted January 18, 2021 Author Posted January 18, 2021 The padlock doesn't stick once in the chute (in either 2D or VR). I have found that if you hit F2 you can't get back into 1st-person by hitting F1 (in VR).

Maybe the same reason the old VR single-screen monitor view went to split-screen and has never been reverted, the guy who handles that stuff has left and nobody's replaced him.
