Picchio Posted January 16, 2021 Posted January 16, 2021 Good day to all, I'd like to ask a word of advice: I never tried VR before, but I'm eyeing the possibility of trying/buying a used Rift S (directly from a friend, so I am assured about its good condition). I still have to wrap my head around all the configuration settings that I will have to take care of, so be patient if my question sounds a bit ignorant. I'm old. My current specs are: CPU i7 6700K, no OC RAM 32GB DDR4-2133 GPU RTX 2070 Super Various SSDs What level of performance/quality should I expect? Also, as I haven't yet read any deep/informed opinion on the subject: is a Rift S a technically better/wiser choice over the Quest 2? If yes, how? If not, how? If possible, keep the comments strictly related to the usage in IL-2 and/or DCS. Thank you in advance for all your contributions!

I have an 8500k at 5gig, GTX1080Ti, 32GB of 3600mhz RAM and a G2. With Balanced IL2 settings and the headset fixed at 45fps, in co-ops, 99% smooth as silk. YMMV.
Picchio Posted January 16, 2021 Author Posted January 16, 2021 Nevermind - just found this thread: Thank you anyway!
354thFG_Drewm3i-VR Posted January 18, 2021 Posted January 18, 2021 I really love my Rift S with slightly lower specced system (laptop with rtx 2070). 1

Thank you for the feedback. What level of graphics options are you able to keep? To elaborate a bit more: I'm also looking at a Reverb G2 but I'm afraid of the compromises I'd have to make in order to achieve smooth performance. Edited January 18, 2021 by Picchio

The Reverb G2 is supposedly the best headset on the market right now, but you probably need a better system to take full advantage of it. The Rift S is a much better experience over the Reverb G1 that I tried, in terms of tracking precision, smooth framerates on medium to high settings, and competitiveness online (no ghosting). I'm running it in high quality mode and with open composite on a razer blade 15 laptop with a 6 core i7 and rtx 2070 max q (equivalent of a desktop gtx 1070). The Rift S is also much comfier and I can wear it with my eye strain glasses. 1
