jollyjack Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 The Spad is a great plane, but for me useless in cockpit F1 view. Any tricks?
No.23_Triggers Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 (edited) Unfortunately you pretty much just have to fly the SPAD until you get used to it! If you stick at it, you'll eventually be able to see out of the cockpit just fine. Edit: You generally have to "work with" the SPAD a bit more than some of the other scouts - rather than flying straight and level you'll need to move her around a bit to 'uncover' the blind spots! Again, it eventually becomes second nature Edited January 8, 2021 by US93_Larner 1 3
ST_Catchov Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 The compulsory U.S. Air Service armored flying helmet specifically designed for the Spad was useful in many ways but did have its drawbacks. It's effectiveness has never been documented.
jollyjack Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 (edited) Only works when you use the famous Excalibur ... 22 hours ago, US93_Larner said: Unfortunately you pretty much just have to fly the SPAD until you get used to it! Again, it eventually becomes second nature I have been editing the fixcameras Spad13.txt file for the Spad, added the top (attach=100) setting, and its far easier to shoot the boogiemen in arcade view. It loads pressing Alt-F2 once. Still experimenting though. Alas i couldn't find a setting to get a more zoomed out view, looking around with the mouse works however. Maybe TrackIR? Does anyone know what the "convex" parameter does (see 'attach=102', set to "VO) and how to use it? ------------------ spad13.txt modded --------: // attach ID should be in range from 100 to 110 [attach=100] // forward view 1m high above pilot's head position = 0,1,0 rotation = 0, 0, 0 object = "LuaScripts/WorldObjects/GoProCamera75.txt" [end] [attach=101] // Gun camera over the cocpit position = -0.227,0.289,0.525 rotation = 0, 0, 0 object = "LuaScripts/WorldObjects/GoProCamera75.txt" [end] [attach=102 // Forvard camera located on the vertical fin position = -3.820,0.806,0.236 rotation = 0, 0, -10 convex = "VO" object = "LuaScripts/WorldObjects/GoProCamera90.txt" [end] [attach=103] // Forvard camera located on the horizontal fin position = -3.688,0.471,-1.391 rotation = 0, 0, 0 convex = "GO_L" object = "LuaScripts/WorldObjects/GoProCamera90.txt" [end] [attach=104] // Backward camera located on the engine cowling position = 1.354,0.586,-0.647 rotation = 0, 150, 0 object = "LuaScripts/WorldObjects/GoProCamera90.txt" [end] [attach=105] // Side camera located on wing position = 1.025,0.717,-3.860 rotation = 0, 100, 0 convex = "Krilo_Top_L_3" object = "LuaScripts/WorldObjects/GoProCamera90.txt" [end] [attach=106] // Forward camera located below the plane tail position = -3.768,-0.168,-0.272 rotation = 0, 0, 0 convex = "Fuse_3" object = "LuaScripts/WorldObjects/GoProCamera90.txt" [end] BTW i get a lot more 'kills' this way than with the Spad's standard cockpit view: Edited January 9, 2021 by jollyjack 1
=IRFC=Gascan Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 You can adjust the fixed cameras!? Holy $#!+, that would make such a difference for try to get certain views. Some of the default views for some of the planes are pretty limited in the view due to struts and braces getting in the way. I've often tried to get a view of the pilot from the wing that works on some machines but is blocked on others. Being able to adjust the position would fix that up right quick. So I have to edit the text file...
jollyjack Posted January 9, 2021 Author Posted January 9, 2021 (edited) you'll need the fixcameras file and place it in the worldobjects folder if you don't have it installed yet Edited January 9, 2021 by jollyjack
No.23_Gaylion Posted January 9, 2021 Posted January 9, 2021 Is this allowed on multiplayer servers or is it considered a mod?

You can use Alt-F2 views - and move them around in game with the mouse - without Mods On but you have to have "Allow Spectators" ticked in Realism settings, so a server that enforces Expert settings will disable them. To actually modify the pov of the cameras in Alt-F2 views you have to have the file mentioned, know how to adjust it, and I think Mods On as well. At least this was enforced at one stage: not sure if they have been reinstated as I have not fiddled with these for a while.
LufberyJAA Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 I'm relatively new to the game, so I'm not sure if this is the same issue as being useless in F1 view. For whatever reason, when I'm in the Spad, the F1 view is actually right front. If I hit the 4 key on the keypad, it goes to the forward view. If I hit 4 again, nothing happens. Hitting the 5 key sends me back to the right front view. Conversely, on the Bristol, the F1 view is dead ahead. Hitting 4 or 6 sends me around, to the left or right in stages LF, L, rear (for example). Any tips? Should I start a new thread? Thanks, -Drew
unreasonable Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Welcome to the club, Drew! The original poster is actually complaining that the cockpit in the SPADs is hard to see out of because of the low top wing, position of the struts etc, which is all true whether you use F1 views, head tracking or VR, so it is a different. I am not sure why F1 is not taking you to the front view in the SPAD, but if pressing 4 normalises everything it does not sound too bad. Most people who play this game a lot end up using head tracking - TrackIR or the free version, Opentrack. It makes for a much better experience once you have got used to it.
US103_Baer Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Spad driving needs a lot of leaning over the side and looking around or sitting up to see over the wings. Can't imagine doing that without Track IR or a good substitute.
Ghost666 Posted January 11, 2021 Posted January 11, 2021 Sounds like your snap views have gotten messed up somehow. If you want to reset them, go to your "IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles/data/LuaScripts/snapviews" directory and delete (make a copy first and save to desktop or some where) the "spad13.svc" file. Then the next time you start the game your views should be back to normal. If you have set up any special views you will have to do them again. 1
jollyjack Posted January 11, 2021 Author Posted January 11, 2021 Well, the first fixcameras setting from above makes me enjoy the Spad a lot more; it's a great plane, well powered engine, only out-turned too easily in dogfights from an Albatros; latter gets away too easily LoL. BTW a Dolphin has far less engine power it seems. Better in turns though.
