Doppler2010 Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 I am totally new to BOS /simming and am struggling generally, and I think with the default key bindings. Some work fine and some do not seem to be effective. Sorry for the list of questions, have spent too much time on this already and would be very grateful for any help you might offer. I’m doing the FlightSchool missions for the Spitfire Mk.VB. Some requirements for the Take Off lesson are that you fully open the water radiators, set mixture to fully rich and set RPM to 100. When I use the default key mappings (RCtl + Minus/Equals; RShft + Minus/Equals; and RAlt+ Minus/Equals), nothing seems to happen. I’m wondering: 1) Do the default key mappings work for all aircraft or are there some conflicts in the defaults that need to be amended first? 2) Is there a first step needed for this model to make those controls effective (e.g. press XYZ to enable manual operation)? 3) Can and do people share mappings for aircraft models that don’t contain conflicts (or mappings that are not relevant for the aircraft), or is that not done? I had a look and did not find anything like this. 4) Can I save mapping layouts by copying and renaming the current.map file within \1C Game Studios\IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles\data\input, to be used at a later point, or does that cause problems somewhere? Many thanks.

Yes and no. There are some double mapped key mappings, but since you only fly one a/c at a time, there's no conflict while in a game. 2. No. 3. See above posts. 4. Yes you can. I have files for each a/c in the system that I fly. However, I changed my mind alot, as will you, so I'd concentrate on learning a few a/c first before tying to build out all the a/c. When I change the a/c I am going to fly, I copy the files from my back up, overwriting the current files. this is my Hurricane file backup. 1

To be able to use the commands you refer to you need to check the realism setting so you don´t have "helpers" active. Check the settings in the rightmost column when in Quick mission "Realism" settings that the green squares are unticked.
Doppler2010 Posted January 6, 2021 Author Posted January 6, 2021 @cardboard_killer – Wow, thanks for the treasure trove! Plenty to read and learn. Community has done a lot of work, more than I had hoped for. @ FlyingH – Thanks and spot on, realism setting to be adjusted. I look forward to trying it out.
kestrel79 Posted January 8, 2021 Posted January 8, 2021 Yeah I want to say it depends on the airplane. For example the Spit or Hurri the Water Radiators are on a switch, so you assigned them with a button key command. Both on other planes like the LaGG it's a lever so it's on an axis and I assign it to my throttle quad.
