IL2 will not launch in VR anymore

I reported my VR problems first in this thread, thinking it was specific to my Quest2.  However, now I'm suspecting its a problem with my installation of IL2.

 

What makes me suspect this is that I just (accidently) launched IL2 with the "VR" tickbox still ticked, but with my VR headset not connected.  Normally, this would result in IL crashing out almost immediately and an error about no VR device found.  However, now I get no VR device error and IL2 starts up in normal desktop mode.  I think this must be at the root of why I cannot get IL2 running in VR anymore.  This problem only started after the last IL2 update (4.505)

 

Obviously this problem seems somewhat unique to me/my system (otherwise there would more complaints) but it seems like it should be easily solvable since I had IL2 running in VR before the update.

Is there anything dead obvious that I should try to get VR working again?

Any speculation would be appreciated!
