Mmaruda Posted January 3, 2021 Posted January 3, 2021 I'm pretty familiar with the MoSCoW development methodology, and pretty sure, some features will never be there, but I'd like to put forth a wish-list of presumably unimportant things, that could make IL-2 a little easier on the newcomers. I no particular order: unifying trim and radiator controls: so you know like there is an oil radiator binding and then a separate oil radiator binding for I think the He-111 (which works in increments)? Literally no on I know uses separate buttons for these, same goes for elevator trim and vertical stabilizer for German planes. I understand why they are separate, but most people still use the same buttons for both, It would be nice to combine both into one and save some hustle assigning these a control assignment wizard - a tool that would go step by step with you to assign all the things you need to fly all planes with brief text explanations what they do. I have recently tried to explain to some friendos how to start in the game, setup you basic controls and stuff and it's a pain to explain everything and super confusing to someone who has not already cut their teeth on flight sims - an external tool even unofficial would help a great deal an in-game link to the ACTL vids on YT for each plane. I would probably be even better, if those vids could be available within the game, but just that would help a lot some training scenarios for take-off, landing and basic gunnery for each plane an option to turn on hint-routes on the airfield for take-off and parking after landing. Yeah, not that much needed, but would help with potential confusion and also allow for immersive mission ends (honestly I stopped bothering, I just park anywhere now after landing and it sucks). built-in profiles for the most popular HOTAS sets. There is like maybe 3 stick and throttle combos you can buy off the shelf now, having them configured OOB would make the fist two points partially redundant (they'd still make it easier and faster for owners to custom gear) fuel and heat indicators in the basic HUD thingy, maybe a prop pitch and radiator indicator as well. Would help new guys immensely and be a big help for those not using TrackIR or VR Some proper ATC at some point just because Falcon BMS spoiled me and it would also help people learn to land better - beneficial for multiplayer as well 2

The same axis is overloaded for inlet cowl shutters, upper cowl flaps, and intercooler shutters, despite those being totally different things. Yet we have separate bindings for elevator and for horizontal stabilizer. The radiator situation is what really annoys me, though. I want to bind my radiators to an axis so that I can move it and know where it's set just by the position of the physical control, so I don't need to rely on tech-chat. I can do that, and it works great, until I want to fly a 110, or a 111, or a Spitfire. Then I need to bind some stupid buttons, and I no longer know where my radiator is set. Just take the axis position and round to the nearest quarter, seventh, etc!
BinakZaino Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 I also think the learning curve is a little step for new players and the "general tips" are not helpful enough. The training missions for "realistic" in WT gave me more insight of how to land a plane due to all the visual cues of when and how to turn, speed control, etc. I feel that is lacking in Great Battles which is way more complex, especially for the soviet planes.
