Hi all...I have the Pimax 8K X on order, but it has no controllers or bases etc. included.  I've read I don't need any bases etc. in order to fly IL 2.  Can someone here tell me how to get the Pimax height, sitting area and play area without those controllers?  I have a HOTAS combo. Will Joystick and throttle show up somewhere in default Pimax settings?   Is a video demo from a member here available?   All help is very much appreciated....Happy New Year......take care...

I do not have Pimax, but am pretty sure you will need at least one base station for 6dof tracking.

Joystick and Throttle would have nothing to do with a VR headset, you will use your HOTAS combo for that.

I am sure someone with Pimax experience will eventually come along and answer more fully for you.

You can play without base stations, but it is not good enough - it is ok while waiting for your BS. That is not really 6dof, it is like cardboard hmd with cellphone. Buy at least one BS, v1  works good, ca 70-80usd/eur on ebay (new).

I have an 8KX and have it paired with 2x base stations, though it will work with one if you only do seating.  So my advice is to find an old version 1 lighthouse on ebay, they can be found cheap.

HOTAS has nothing to do with VR and will works just as it currently does.

Thank you very much ICDP.  That's what I needed to know.  I will only fly etc. while seated, so I will use 1 base only.  Anything I need to do with Steam?  My sims are Steam . I already have Steam VR downloaded.  I have it for my Rift S, but I have the feeling there might be more involved with the Pimax headset.  Is there something I should do with Steam VR?  Thanks again...take care...

No need to do anything more than you already do with steamVR.  I warn you up front that you will need to spend a good few days tinkering with IPD offsets to get the image sharp and to reduce eyestrain.  The Pimax 8KX is not a plug and play VR device.  Strangely with my older 2080 I had to have left eye horiz IPD at +1 and right eye at -2 to reduce eyestrain.  I changed to a 3080 and had to change the right IPD to 0.  Not sure why but the original working setting on the 2080 caused eye strain on the 3080.

Another piece of advice is to have the IPD manual adjust around 3-4mm lower than your actual IPD as this helps improve sharpness.  It is to do with the canted displays and near vs far IPD.  I have an IPD of 63 and have the manual IPD as low as it will go, so I think around 63 is the lowest practical IPD.  Of course your mileage may vary.

When you get it drop me a PM if you are having issues.  I would recommend getting that v 1.0 lighthouse AAP because the gyros tracking in the Piamx is not remotely adequate and can actually cause motion sickness.

I do love the HMD and with 75Hz at 4K per eye it ran OK on my 2080 with medium/high settings in IL-2, SSAO and HDR off as it is a massive FPS killer.  Though I did have to drop SS in SteamVR down to 50%.

What GPU and CPU do you have?

Great advice.  I have the Intel 9900X and SLI 2080 Ti cards,32gigs of RAM.  Thanks for your offer of continued support.  I will PM you when the Pimax arrives and I start to set it up.  I really do appreciate this.  Take care..Happy New Year!

SLI doesn't work in VR, at least not in I-L2.  Though to be honest you should still get a good level of performance with a 2080Ti.

YOU DEFINITELY NEED ONE STATION.When I had Pimax5K I placed the station about 7ft away directly to my left & at about a 7” height. With the help of the Pitool I “mapped my room space (which was quite limited,) and it worked perfectly fine.Newer headsets like the Reverb G2 don’t require any of these tracking stations and are easier to install.

I know I need one base station.  I need to know which one to buy.  There are more than a few models available and I think I need a Steam VR unit.  Do I?  I saw a Steam VR 2.0 model, but I really have no clue as to which one is best.  Any recommendations?  I'm not that concerned about how much it might cost, I just want the best one for the Pimax 8Kx.  Thanks for your input...take care...

OK guys...I just ordered the HTC Vive. I sure hope this is the right one.  My Pimax should be delivered by Jan 8th, and the HTC shows expected delivery on the 8th as well. That's why I bought it.  I want to get everything set up together at the same time.  Did I do the right thing?  Is that the base that works with the Pimax?  Thanks all...much appreciated...take care..
