At my wits end trying to get IL2 to work with Quest 2

My system:

CPU: i7

GPU: RTX 2080 SUPER

RAM: 32 GB

HD: 1 TB SSD

OS: Windows 10 Pro

I've been trying to play BoB for the past week on my Quest 2, but have been plagued with intermittent stuttering.

I have the non-Steam version of IL2 and have been running OpenComposite (instead of SteamVR)

Today I had the weirdest  VR experience yet:

1) I load up IL2 and play a solo, free fight in the P38--average frame rate is ~90fps with occasional (severe) drops when I fly low over towns.  I fly for 20 minutes and the frame rate seems solid. Okay, I can live with that.

2) End that mission, and then start a single battle of my P38 against an AI Me109

3) Scenario loads and starts.  However, about 5 seconds into the mission the frame rate drops to ~10! NOTE that this is in the same IL2session where I had just gotten 90 fps for 20 minutes of free flight

4) I quit IL2 using the menus (ie I don't force quit)

5) Now, I cannot re-start IL2 without getting an abysmally low frame rates in VR (even during the menus)

6) Finally, I restart my computer  and the Quest 2.  IL2 still will not load in VR without an absurdly low frame rate 10-15 fps

If I start IL2 back up in non VR mode, everything looks normal.

Right now I am complete at a loss--it seems I cannot get IL2 running in VR at all, even though I changed non of the settings since I had it running well.

Any advice on what is happening or how I should trouble shoot this?

I've also got a Quest 2 and had problems getting IL2 to run on it - but that was more a config issue. Now it is working and I will keep an eye on the issues you are reporting. So far nothing of that sort has happened to me.

Here my 5 cents:

  1. Do you have 2 graphics cards in the computer/laptop?
  2. Overheating - could that be causing it?
  3. Were you overclocking?
  4. Did you check the settings in the graphics drivers? (nvidia?)
  5. Are other games still running normally?

Clearly something is preventing the game to run as before - so I would def try to look at the drivers first.

1) Two graphics processors.  I have Oculus Link and IL2 forced to run using the RTX 2080

2) I've checked afterwards and temp looks normal and the fans are not going crazy

3) not overclocking

4) Nvidia drivers are up-to-date and I've made only a few tweaks (like slaving the VSYNC to the application)

5) IL2  seems to be the only VR program affected (DCS World and Assetto Corsa still working fine)

If IL2 hadn't run so well in VR before it didn't, I would be more suspicious of a system wide problem.

And the fact that I can run IL2 with Ultra 4k settings outside of VR with no stutter...well all that seems to implicate something specific how IL2 communicates with the VR hardware/software

The Quest 2 doesn't run so good for me compared to the Rift S in IL2.. I always chocked it up to the video encoding / decoding and transmitting the signal over USB.  I reserve it for standalone stuff.  Hopefully you get it sorted. I got it running in both Virtual Desktop streaming and via Link with V23 update but the ghosting/stuttering and artifacts were too much for me.

Well, as to now Oculus Link has stopped working entirely with IL2.

Other games seem fine so really looks to be something specific to IL2.  I don't know of any settings I changed in IL2 so possibly related to a recent IL2 recent patch (seems as I've been auto-downloading one every other day for the past week)

I have the q2 with link and it is working since the updates. Not overly thrilled with the q2 so far after spending many hours trying to dial in performance and graphics. I have a powerful rig minus the gpu as I wait for a 3080 but even ignoring performance I can’t get the graphics to where it looks good to me. A lot of shimmering in the landscape good but not great clarity in the cockpit and bland color. Maybe be selling it and going for a g2.

I'm in the queue for a January G2 and have until the end of January to return the Q2--I'm hoping I can give them a good side-by-side in a few weeks (but in DCS as IL2 VR  is still not working for me).

I got a G2 sitting here and have done some good back to back with the Rift S, Q2 and G2.   It's a bit of a game changer for simming. That's for sure!!  I'm not a fan of WMR software or the controllers - but I really only use my HMD's for simming so that doesn't matter to me.

I do some other games and find the G2 controllers to be pretty good.

Not as good as Oculus Touch, but still pretty decent.

I did a complete play through of Half Life Alyx and Medal of Honor Above and Beyond with them.

I'm new to VR - just got my Q2 early December. I can't get IL2 (non Steam version ) to work at all (DCS / DIrt Rally 2 / ETS2 / Elite Dangerous are all good).
I have the non Steam version of DCS only.
VR is ticked in launcher settings, but no go.

Edit: Got it working a while back (see:

)

So I have a quest2 and it is working super smooth for me over a link cable.

However my friend also has a quest2 and is getting stuttering on IL2 and DCS. He has a 3080 card. I on the other hand have an AMD 5800XT.

There seems to be lots of threads pointing to nvidea driver problems and they are not just affecting quest.

When we were trying to solve my mates stuttering issues we found this support thread on the nvidia site:

https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/game-ready-drivers/13/402768/valve-index-missing-dropped-frames-since-nvidia-d/

His PC blows mine out of the water on performance but he has not been having a good time of it with PCVR.

Still cannot get IL2 to launch into VR (SteamVR or OpenComposite).

And because I had it working at one time, it's really confusing/frustrating.  While I think Nvidia drivers might be a fault for the stutter, the fact that IL2 is suddenly by passing VR at startup (while my other VR aps still work) seems like an IL2 problem.

Looking forward to the day when VR is not an after thought for games like this--imo VR seems tailor made for driving/flight sims, more than any other kind of game

Thought I'd better post this - if not to help others who were in a similar situation. I couldn't find the right help anywhere.
Thanks to =RS= Funkie, he pointed me in the direction of OpenComposite. This worked for me easily, and now I can play IL2 on my Quest 2 headset.
For those (like me) who don't know, it's a small free app that you run prior to opening IL2 and emulates Steam VR (for those who don't have their 1C games on Steam).

Hammer,

so you open OpenComposit

then IL-2 GB from your desktop

then put on and turn on your Q2 headset?

   No need for Virtual Desktop?
