Serious VR VR question to those experts in this community in what to buy ,not necessarily related to GB Game play

I have an old friend who because of a stroke & the virus conditions is partially disabled & confined to a  long care facility room.He has been for some months now and as you might imagine is miserable.Even tho in his 70's he is quite a bright guy & before this all happened was a talented graphic designer, model builder, and pilot  .Now because of the stroke and its attendant paralysis, is unable to do many of the things that once came easily to him.Gameplay such as GB is beyond him, but many VR experiences ( rides ,travels, therapies) might offer a kind of escape from the restrictions of his current life.So my question is what sort of less expensive , less demanding on a PC entrylevel VR setup might you recommend? I'm pretty sure he was a MAC guy but at this point I'm not sure .It doesn't need to have all the bells and whistles but I'm think a lot of access to games ,travels & rides that don't necessarily require hand controllers to be fun. If I could recommend or give advice  for something to his wife so she could be in the info loop that would be great!

Check the possibilities of the Oculus Quest 2, it's wireless so way less complicated and for lots of experiences you don't need a PC.

Yeah Quest 2 should be a very easy way for him to get into VR. Will have access to lots of games and experiences with no PC required.

Be aware though it does require a Facebook Account to use it.

I can certainly empathize being victim to strokes twice now.

and pilot

Yes, the Quest2 could be the best and most simple way to allow him VR to evade a bit.

Being him a pilot, for sure he could enjoy the new MFS2020 just on a FullHD TV he might have already in his room. He can explore the whole world from his room and show their colleagues their pilot skill and the beauty of some places he might know or totally new.

Just a simple custom build PC with a medium graphic card and a simple joystick for 800-1000$, but this is much more expensive than Quest2.

There are refurbished PCs from Newegg with warranty like this:

There are many people who are upgrading their PC to the latest CPU/GPUs and don´t know really what to do with their old one (but still quite capable rigs). For example, with the components of my old rig (4790K, 16Gb RAM, 250Gb SSD, MSI z97 Mobo) I just invested 110€ for Case+PSU+cooler+mounting_services and my 85-yr father had new PC just for web browssing and small apps.

A second hand gaming PC with a 1080 or even 1070 could also be an option with a Rift-S (new or second hand). The Rift-S is now just 300$ before it is discontinued in Feb-2021.
