Surely to have manufactured gun sights as standard is an insult to the great achievement of the Soviet air force? Of course regiments like the GIAP would probably be the first equipped and so should have them.

Maybe you meant VV-1 gunsight which was done as one with an Armored windshield of IL2 - but it wasnt a "hand drawn" - it was a serial production stuff and was implemented due to high risk of face injury while emergency landings with standart gunsight, and as well - VV-1 gaved almost the same results while aiming - by statistics, and it was much cheaper for production of course.
