Pennix_LeGaulois Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 (edited) Hello everyone, I am experiencing a crash trying to use the mission editor on a computer with integrated graphics (Intel Iris Plus Graphics). GUI map view & ortho view seems to work fine, but whenever I switch to 3D view, I got the following error in seconds : D3D_ERROR DXBufferMan11::vb(..) DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED (0x887a0005) I've tried using ResetEditorSettings.cmd a few times, but it does not stop the error from occurring. edit : forgot to mention that I also tried changing screen resolution to 1026*768, and did verify game files through steam. Now, I know I am pushing my luck a little using a computer without dedicated GPU (it's a surface pro 7, with an i7-1065 CPU), but I do not intent to play the game on this. I was hopping to manage some casual mission editing on the go ! As I understood from my researches (like this thread from 2017), it might be related to both GPU driver & graphics options (I'm also suspecting some kind of power saving shenanigans from the surface). However, while drivers & power saving are stuff I'll have to look into on my end, I have a few questions : Is this a known bug for the Mission Editor ? Is there a way to configure graphic settings for the editor ? I suspect the 3D view in the editor is using different options from the game, and maybe one enabled setting is using technology my integrated GPU cannot render... because you never know when you might be lucky ? : is there a known workaround for such a bug ? This is a bit frustrating given I manage to play a few games (with downgraded graphics) on this device (namely Divinty II & Deep Rock Galactic). While I was expecting huge slow-downs on the mission editor when using the 3D view (which I wouldn't mind), having it crashing prevents me from really using it... Thanks for taking the time to read me, Best regards to the dev team & fellow players ! Edited December 30, 2020 by Pennix_LeGaulois
Japsai Posted December 30, 2020 Posted December 30, 2020 I sometimes have the same issue with my VR headset (Quest 2) when I am overclocking the GPU. Are you overclocking? I am probably gonna work my way through this link (but was searching IL2 forum 1st) https://ugetfix.com/ask/how-to-fix-dxgi_error_device_removed-on-windows-10/#:~:text=The DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED error is a,chance of encountering the problem.
Pennix_LeGaulois Posted January 3, 2021 Author Posted January 3, 2021 Thanks for your feedback. I don't think it is coming from any kind of overclock : I'm not doing anything fancy with these integrated graphics. However as it is integrated, I do not know whether Intel is using some kind of GPU boost feature under the hood. But I didn't specify anything as a user, and I can play several other games without crashes. To be honest, I was kind of hopping there was a .cfg file somewhere to configure graphics for the editor ? Maybe there is something in mission editor default rendering in 3D view that integrated graphics cannot render and thus generates an error ? I suspect 3D view is using a "fixed" preset for graphics, that is different of game settings set by the user. And it seems way higher quality than minimal settings you can set in the game.
