I have Fly Circus.. and I love it. I also fly Rise of Flight often.

I am exploring purchasing IL2, which of the Great Battle series would be a good first?

Thanks in advance

What airplanes are you interested in? All the packs run in the same engine so the quality is fairly similar across the board. Since Stalingrad was the first pack, most multiplayer servers tend to have a handful of those planes on every map, if that influences you any. My personal favourite battle is Kuban, because the map is gorgeous, and there's a lot of variety in airplanes, with lots of twin engined planes, fighters from four different nations, etc

I recommend BoS, premium. It has, IMO, the best mix of a/c unless you are absolutely in love with the iconic WAlly a/c in BoBp.

Battle of Stalingrad Premium (incl. La-5 and Fw-190) for $11.99. Then explore from there. You sooner or later get them all, especially if they are on sale, as it is the case right now.

It is the most important choise You make and it is a personal one. If you like the East front, I should consider the Kuban front.  But front the Western front there only one choise in the WW2 serie, Bodenplatte. ?

Buy the lot, start your war from Oct 41 with Pat Wilson's superb Campaign Generator. Three of us are having a blast with it (18 missions in). :)

I bought the lot, flew a couple quick missions in the 51. I'm hooked....the game is excellent eye candy. The flight physics to a little getting use to, I got off a burst on a 109 in a head on pass with a good strike as we passed, I cut hard on the 109 and stalled into a tail spin ( This is not a Alb DV I thought) recovered at about 500 m got a little separation and started to climb out, glance back and the 109 is roiling over and starting to dive on me. I turned hard to meet him and felt that 51 start to stall again.  Ease up on the stick and she turned like a dream. Managed to get another strike on him and he fell away.

I will hunt down Pat Wilson's Generator. Long week end coming up cant wait...

Thanks Gentlemen

I am most familiar with the Western Front, I'll probably start there. I am very curious to see the flight models of the soviet aircraft. I don't know much about them, however given the number of German victories over the soviet aircraft I am wondering how they handle.

It wasn't so much that their planes were bad, it was poor pilot training, lack of radios and no air-combat tactical doctrine (early on).

P-51 is great in this sim! It does everything it should but if you handle it poorly it'll bite back just a little bit.

Soviet aircraft have a fascinating history and this sim is a great way to experience just a bit of it. As Hetzer already mentioned, Soviet pilot tactics and training were the biggest issues in the early part of the war. Their aircraft, though simple and often not quite as advanced as their German counterparts, were tough and rugged and should not be underestimated.

Also, they had to wait for a telegram from the Glorious Leader to authorise firing while chasing Luftwaffe planes. While in the air. True story.
