IL2 55GBs?!

I'm reinstalling IL 2 and it says that it is downloading the game client 27.89GBs but when I go into the folder it says IL 2 is 55.1GBs...before this last update I had plenty of room on my computer for the simulator...now...I have 5.77MB available...

Any help would be greatly appreciated

55 GB is about the correct size for the game, yes.

If you need to stretch it across another drive,

https://schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html

Easy to do and works fine, you can put all your skins on another drive and keep the file structure workable.

I'll try that...does it work with putting files besides the skins on another drive?

How does installation of Great Battles work?

I only own Stalingrad, but the game has grown to an immense size. I'm guessing all the content is already in the game, just locked behind authorization. If I buy for example Flying Circus or Bodenplatte, will the install size increase or is everything already there? Will only new maps be added or also planes?

Does anyone know this? What's your install size?

For me with only vanilla Stalingrad owned, the game is about 70GB as of v4.505

Update: just bought Bodenplatte, no additional download.

This is quite simple - when you install the game, you get an one-in-all installation. This means, all content available/published will be downloaded at once.

With your purchase, you will only have access to what you actually bought - you actually unlock items you buy. That's why the installation seems so big.

Well, that's kind of a personal question .... but mine's only 44.7gb.

Did you remove the updates folder?

Nah. I don't mess with anything. Vanilla install, no mods and just update as they become available (I own FC only but that includes all content apparently, according to THERION, until unlocked by further purchases). I try to keep my system (W10) as lean and clean as possible though.

Yes, I do the terrain folders with DCS and its fine, that games a monster in size.  Going across sharing two similar SSD's can't tell any difference.  The map folders and files still appear in the original game folder and updates are no problem, the system see's it as being in the original folder and on the original drive.  It doesn't care which folder or what's in them.

1 TB solid state drives are pretty cheap and fast as hell

If we`re talking SSDs, choose the M.2 NVmE drive if you have the M.2 slot on your mobo. They`re much faster drives for a few bucks more.

Mine is 70.1 Gb! And I've still got to shoehorn in BoN!

I have lots of skins and mods.

I am reinstalling the game from scratch and after downloading for two days, I have the following showing on my Il-2 start window:

"Downloading game client (476.29 GB/119.61 GB) 11.11 Mb/s"

My game folder shows 2.21 GB size on disk.

I own all of the flight modules minus Flying Circus and since the game client is still downloading, I'm unable to fly.  So here I am with close to 500 GBs downloaded.

2 questions

1.  What total amount of game client data should I expect to download before the game is ready?

2.  Where does all of the data I have downloaded go? (approx. 500 GBs downloaded - game folder a just over 2 GB in size)

thank you

What game folder are you looking at? IL-2: Great Battles is not 2.21 GB in size.

My install is 116GB (that includes tracks, skins and screenshots, your mileage will vary).

For comparison sake, and just so nobody thinks this size is unreasonable. My X-Plane 11 install is 69 GB (plus 150GB for scenery) and my DCS World install is 277 GB.

Thanks for the reply, I am looking at my Il-2 Sturmovik Great Battles game folder and it reads 2.21 GB.  I stopped the downloading when the game client download reached 540 GBs.

Reboot the computer, re-launched the game, and been down loading "game client" which is now at 104 GBs.  Is this a reload or addition to the 540 GB.  If continued, then the game client has downloaded almost 650 GBs which goes not look right.  I cannot find where the down loaded files are going, but Il-2 start window continues to download. 424051631_Il-2downloadexcessive.thumb.jpg.a5bf39e4db0906a54ab3280ae34dc43e.jpg

Yeah, that's not a normal download.

Maybe best to start something in the Tech Support forum.
