Flying Circus in VR and my story

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Good day people , after a long period of not flying any sim i am back , I bought the  il-2 game from the very start ,  joined  a squadron , after a long time of playing dynamic online missions I slowly start loosing interest and transferred to Rise of flight.

Than came my burnout and I am sure this hobby had something to do with it , in ROF I used 3D vision and it always give me some motion sickness and headache  .

Working till 5 a clock , eating and than into il2 ore ROF till 12 a clock was normal , almost every day .

Then I meet the man with the hammer ,  also had sleep apnea and to much other bad things was a ideal mix fore a mega burnout that would last fore some 5 years , because of a good breathing machine (Cpap) and healthy live style I am back in business  , still have to be careful what I am doing .

Its also a little warning fore simmers ,  tired ?  stop flying fore a few day i am not joking ...

Than came the question is flightsim on pc still fun ? I now people using a rift S and they never want to go back to a normal flat screen .

Then start reading stuff about VR and came to the conclusion that the Reverb G2 was the best thing fore this .

I Pre orderd  it and 4 weeks ago i received this VR set , when i start i was a little disappointed because after a few ours i was dizzy and sick once again , than came a friend of mine with the answer  , his collage had a 1070 8b  and i had only a 1060 6 gb ,  its does not look much but this card was 35% faster and suddenly i could play everything on good quality and +- 45  fps with no stutters , and those stutters make you crazy in VR .

And of course a 3070 ore 3080 TI ore faster AMD is so much better and right now I try to save some money fore that GPU .

But so far so good Flying circus in VR is a dream , you are really flying and in Dogfights I do a much better job ,  think I am a average pilot but VR makes you better , situation awareness is amazing and you can spot so much better under and above you .

Salute people

Greets

I also have G2 but VR is not for me at all, tried first gen and now this but always come back to 2d and trackIR. BTW never had any motion sickness. Even this second gen VR is not enough for me unfortunately, maybe 8K, 140 fov  and 120Hz will do somday ? . G2 clarity is noticeably better I see that and games made for VR -  HF Alyx and Lone echo are great to play!

As competitiveness in multiplayer, I think that 2d &Track IR has edge on situation awareness, definitively not as aiming which is great in VR ?

What would be fun and could work great is using two seaters attack planes.

But glad that you enjoy it. Have fun!

Know what you mean Rob. I suffered burnout and gave up flight sims (or any gaming) for 6 years or so. It was only hearing about FC a year or so back that piqued my interest into getting back into it. Although not nearly as rabid before. I'm a very casual gamer these days. And only WW1 flight sims. RoF, WoFF and FC.

I'm not tempted by VR. That seems more of a hardcore gaming thing to me which I am not. I'm happy with 2D head tracking. But my SA and spotting is terrible. I still have my 10 year old 22" low res flat screen. I'm thinking of upgrading. Might need a bigger flight desk but.

Anyway, welcome to the FC crowd.

I had a 21 inch for years and only just got a new 32" 1440 monitor from gigabyte. The difference is like night and day. But you need a half decent graphics card to use it, Had a 1050 ti and it seemed to burn it out, really didn't think it would have done that. So I upgraded to a 1660 ti and it runs great.

Yeah I've got a standard 1660 so I should be right. Perhaps time to upgrade because my spotting and SA is terrible with the old screen. But they're pretty expensive and money is tight! :(

In VR my spotting is 50% improved , i am 53 and my eyes not getting any better , i can't miss a plane anymore in VR even when i want it haha i build myself a flightsim(Box) with a car chair in it , flying is so more relaxed right now , even made windows in it so when i lay my arm in it it feels exactly like i put my arm on the side of my pfalz ore what ever i fly , i am by no means a hard core gamer , wel not anymore , i think i do fly right now once in 2 days  +- 1 our , 1 ore 2 small sorties .

Got mine for $440.00 Canadian so it's not too bad of a price. That's including shipping from Amazon.

Now I like that little Fokker! She's a beauty. Does she have an ashtray or do you just flick it out the window?

I need 2.0 reading glasses but was able to find (1) a company that makes round corrective lenses that will fit the Rift and (2) a company that 3D prints a frame that adapts the lenses to the headset.  About $40 altogether, IIRC.  Don't recall the name of the lens manufacturer but I'm sure if you Google the subject you'll find it.   Prosit!

thanks man haha no ashtray fore me haha don't smoke , the idea of this project to build something like a Cessna fore the inside because the plan was to start non combat FS 2020 , but that in VR I need to upgrade my GPU and CPU and that's not a option fore now , than I read on the forum the flying circus 1 sale and so I went fore that , did not realize how cool this game looks in VR and it plays better than the M109 zoom and boomers game, at least here you have a chance when you fly alone , in IL2 stalingrad/moskow  you really need to fly in groups ore else you in the meet grinder hahaha  ,  also start watching the old DVD ,s again like blue max ,Red baron and flyboys and al kind of other ww1 related movies jus to taste a little of that atmosphere again .

My main enthusiasm has always been WWII aircraft, but there is something absolutely visceral about flying open cockpit in VR.
