Beanie Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 Just a quick Hi to all members. Recently purchased il-2 BoS (3 days ago) and I am just having the best time. Already collected a number of collector aircraft and download the extra skins from the forum. Learning to fly the Yak 1b69 at the moment and will step into a BoS campaign in the next couple of days. I would like to thank all those that have shared their campaigns and aircraft skins - They have made a great game even better. Best Regards 7 8
AndyJWest Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Hi Beanie, welcome to the forums. Always good to see a newcomer having fun. ? You've made a good choice starting with a Yak - the various models are all relatively easy to fly, if a little lacking in firepower. Don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions. 2
Rjel Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Welcome. You’ll enjoy your time here. A lot of good and knowledgeable people here.
Beanie Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) Thank you for the welcomes. Just need to sort out how to start the engine and I am good to go - just don't seem to be able to get this simple task completed!!! Have looked at the tuts on youtube as well as guides - clearly I am not getting it!!! But I will keep trying until I can start up the engine and taxis. Regards Edited December 28, 2020 by Beanie
cardboard_killer Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 (edited) Taxiing is one of the hardest things to get used to. It took me a long time to get decent at it, and even now it can sometimes be very frustrating. The Yak is one of the easier planes to taxi as long as you can keep the tail wheel locked. If you have to unlock it, it becomes more difficult. Practice practice practice. With engine start up, basically: mixture at 100%; RPM at 100%; throttle at 0% until the engine turns over, then up the throttle to 50% for a few seconds while keeping the breaks held down. After it catches, lower to throttle to 0% again until you are ready to start taxiing. Edited December 28, 2020 by cardboard_killer
Beanie Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 Thank you DD_Arthur - I kept pressing E so was also switching the engine off!!! Dohh!!! - Clearly to much Christmas rum ? Killer - Yes I am finding taxing the hardest, but will keep at it My next step is to now start a Yak 1b 69 campaign This is an excellent game and I just don't know why I had not got it sooner Dohh!!! Cheers
Stoopy Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 Requiem's series of videos on YT are a fantastic resource, here's one of his tutorials on the Yak 1b. I believe it was made prior to the change that requires you to set mixture to 100% prior to starting, but otherwise should be quite an accurate reference. Happy hunting! 1

Dohh!!! - Clearly to much Christmas rum ? If you are on realistic settings you need to set mixture to 100% and throttle to about 10% then push [E] Mixture can be set to just under 70% after start for simplicity. Radial engines and water cooled engines need to be treated a little bit different. Take easy small steps and things is not that complicated And welcome
Beanie Posted December 29, 2020 Author Posted December 29, 2020 Thank you Stoopy and LuseKofte for the advice. I have just completed my first mission - an interception mission as Soviet Yak 1b. The dogfight was great just a great big furball of aircraft milling around. Such great fun!!
