I doubt this is an issue with IL2. More likely it is an issue with Windows Mixed Reality (WMR), or even then Reverb G2 VR headset. I am posting here so there's some discussion of it and how to solve the problem. At present I am vexed by it and cannot find a solution.

While in IL2 in VR, I do not usually have a mouse cursor. On rare occasion, I get one, but it is frozen in place. Usually I get nothing at all. If I remove the headset, I have a cursor on my desktop. But by removing my headset, I can no longer interact with IL2. If I simply lift the headset so it thinks I am still wearing it, (but I can now see the screen) I can use my cursor on screen to select options in WMR. That way, I can still use IL2, although it's tricky and a bit of a pain.

Anyway, this is not how this is supposed to work. I previously used Oculus Rift and RIft S and had no problems. I do love the visual upgrade from the Reverb G2. But obviously there is a problem.

Troubleshooting steps taken to date include uninstalling and reinstalling Steam VR, which I read as a possible solution somewhere, but this has not made any difference.

Thank you for any information!

My suspicion is this cycles the cursor through a number of invisible virtual desktops. That or it's simply broken.

It works for me, but I know what causes it.

There are a few rules to avoid the issue you have:

1) When starting up IL-2, do not ever refocus on another window or application in Windows while it is loading up in any loading situation.

2) Play in Windowed mode and a setting smaller than your native desktop resolution, do not play in fullscreen mode. Focus IL-2 by clicking upon the App.

3) If the game is out of focus because you alt-tabbed, do not alt-tab back to IL-2. You need windowed mode and leftclick into it.

If you can drag your mouse cursor out of the IL-2 window upon windows, it didn't lock the cursor properly in the game. Try refocusing another app, then focus IL-2 again by clicking into it.

Good luck

That is a very good point, that might also be the case. I'd assume everyone has disabled his pre-allocated virtual desktops.

Check my thread for how to do it:

Thank you, Fenris. You are clever about these things. I will give these ideas a try.

I did the registry edit quite a while back and it did improve things somewhat. The ultimate fix, I believe, will be getting completely rid of WMR. SteamVR isn't great but it's preferable.

Anyone found a fix for this? I've just run into it, thought my trackball batteries were dead, but no -- IL2 is ignoring mouse input when I have my G2 headset on. If I take it off my eyes (leave game focused) the mouse works fine.

Yes, it's in Windows Settings > Mixed Reality > Headset Display - the last item Input Switching should be "Manually switch using win + Y".

Please pin this! I went through all kinds of BS fixes without any joy until this.

Sorry to bring this old thread up again, but I am having the same problems and the solution above is not available for me, so I need some help.

Lately, when I boot up IL-2, my cursor remains frozen on the menu page; however, it will move if I take off my headset.  I tried the solution above, but the newest version of Windows does not appear to have the Switching option anymore under Windows Settings > Mixed Reality > Headset Display.

If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.  Thank you in advance.

Update:  Previously, I was starting the game up in SteamVR; starting this game in normal Steam seems to have solved this and other startup problems.
