taffy2jeffmorgan Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 HI All, I'm having problems with take offs, I open up the throttle and the plane just noses over, I select the command " chocks out " but cant find a wheel brake toggle on/off and this happens no matter which A/C that I fly, am I missing something ? just installed Desert Wings for the first time, got my joystick set up but that's not much use if I cant get off the ground?
DD_FT- Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Check what button/key is assigned to 'Full Wheel Brakes', but also check under Axes, there's a 'Wheel Brakes' in there. (There is no wheel brake toggle indeed, but it could be operating the brakes once (via a key or Axis) before take off may release them... )

In this case you could trim a bit upwards. If it noses over without moving it is something with the brakes. I suggest at first: engage the autopilot and wait until the plane starts moving, then disengage autopilot and take off manually. Best regards
56RAF_Stickz Posted December 27, 2020 Posted December 27, 2020 Whilst there are several planes that will nose over very easy once taxiing (ie wellie and beaufighter), I would imagine that you are applying too much power too quickly to overcome inertia. Some planes can require a fair bit of oomph to get to roll, a hurri for instance on grass. You dont say if this is from a cold start or one where you start running on edge of runway (although it should make little difference). Chocks are not usually in place when spawn in so its unlikely they cause you issues. Brit planes use push button for brake (B key default) and its on/off so dont press and hold it else most will nose over. Axis planes mostly can be set to rudder pedal axis (if you have one). But pull stick fullback before rolling and dont apply full power immediately and once moving pull throttle back a little, and do not apply brakes hard, just a quick dab if you have to. Once you done it a couple of times you'll wonder why you ever found it difficult. You best bet is try spit, hurri or 109 to learn, twins can pull badly to one side and the gladiator has a huge amount of torque and it gives the urge to control with brakes - dont do it.
taffy2jeffmorgan Posted December 28, 2020 Author Posted December 28, 2020 I have sorted out the problem of brake release, as suggested the key [ Full Wheel Brake ] assign a key for this option and keep tapping the key and you will see in the right side of your screen, 100% - 50% - 0% with 0 selected brakes are off, just thought I would mention this in case some new pilots may be having the same problem. Cheers 1
