setting up my joystick for desert wings ?

Hi All, Just installed Desert Wings and have been trying to set up my joystick [Thrustmaster T16000 ] in the option screen,  I'm highlighting the command and then pressing the appropriate button on the stick to select this option but nothing is being displayed, the stick is setup for IL-2 Sturmovik so was going to use same buttons and stick movement for Desert Wings, must be something wrong ?

Highlighting the command is not enough: Double click it, a popup will appear.

Then use the button/Key/Axis to assign.
