‘Green Hearts’ – Battle of the Bulge Mission 2’

It is the 31st Dec 1944 and the town of Bastogne is under siege. You have been ordered to carry out a ‘free-hunt’ mission in the area of Bastogne within the Ardennes battle zone, providing air cover for the hard pressed ground forces.

Mission notes: This mission is semi-historical. The Gruppe had a fair distance to travel before they entered the Ardennes battle zone, things then start to ‘liven-up’. You can put your Fockes on autopilot and ‘speed them up to 8’ to cover the distance more quickly. You can also watch the artillery duel and other actions by activating the several cameras’(F10,F11). The weather starts to really deteriorate, so be careful?

Hope you enjoy this piece of WWII aerial history. Have a very happy Christmas and stay safe.

Hello DFLion

As usual great mission to fly many thanks for the work!!!
By the way I have a personnal request.

As French I am a big fan of Pierre Clostermann
I began to fly on IL2 two years ago and I slowly tried myself to build missions on IL2 46
One of my first attempt was to recreate Pierre Clostermann's missions on VP mod for myself.
One year ago I discovered your amazing job for the BIG show 52 missions with highly detailed briefings.
I have the project to rebuild it on IL 46 BAT using all the new tools and maps available to be closer as possible to reality. But as a non native english spoken I get some difficulties for the missions' briefings.
So I ask for your waiver to let me use yours, of course with full credit for what you have done.
My project should be perhaps a little smaller around 35 missions (many maps changes!!)

Fly safe
HERCJG54 France?

PS I tried also to build missions on IL GB but it is definitely too hard (so I fly your missions!!!)

Good to hear from you HERCJG54,

I appreciate your thanks for the last mission. You certainly have my permission to use my English briefings that I did on my IL 46 'Big Show' 52 mission campaign. For your information, I gave permission to another French flight simmer to convert the English briefings into French after I did that campaign. He in turn contacted a relation of Pierre Clostermann for permission to post the campaign in French, which she gladly gave. I think the French version of my campaign was posted on 'Check Six' quite a few years ago.

Your project sounds very interesting and I will be looking forward to seeing it. As you know, I have done a few single 'Big Show' missions on the IL2GB Rhineland maps and I will do some more using the Normandy maps, I will then link them all into a IL2GB 'Big Show' campaign.

Hope things are all good with the 'covid virus' in your part of the world - stay safe.

Hi

I have a problem:

I cannot update the mission to 4.601.

If I try to open the mission in the editor, I have an error message :(

Do you have the same problem ?

Hi jeanba,

I've have just tried to relentlessly resave the mission to 4.601 - sadly it just doesn't work? (see screenshot attached) So I am not sure what is happening here! I liked this mission and it has been popular with everybody. I will contact the 'problem people' and see if they can fix it?

It was the same for me, when I tried to open it in the mission editor

(not that I even deleted the .msnbin file before)

Hi everyone,

We are in 'COVID Lock Down' in my part of the world so this gives me more time to make some hopefully very good semi-historical missions. I am going to remake 'Green Hearts' Battle of the Bulge-Mission 2, this time with a few subtle changes. The Gruppe will still travel the historical distance (because that is what actually happened?) though the situation over Bastogne will be a bit tougher for them!

PS Jason, hanging in there for the 'drop tanks'.

Hi again,

I have remade this mission, 'Green_Hearts' Battle of the Bulge Mission 2.

The mission is now 'Historical' (see separate post 'Green Hearts 4 - Battle of the Bulge') which will be posted shortly.
