6./ZG26_Klaus_Mann Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 Hi, In September I gave my Gaming Notebook (Acer Predator Helios 300 with GTX 1060 and i7-7700HQ) it's second Change of Thermal Paste. On the first Change I used Arctic MX4, didn't change the Heat Pads, and wasn't all that happy with the new Cooling (Constantly hitting the 95°C Throttling after 6 Months) and switched to Grizzly Kryonaut and Thermo Pads. At first this ran really great, CPU never hitting 80°C (which is good) and GPU rarely going over 65°C with the Fans on Automatic (which limits them to about 66% Power) Now, even blowing it our with Pressurized Air, Vacuuming it, even running the Fans at Max Power the CPU will run a Stable 85°C ingame and sometimes get weird Spikes up to 98°C (for about 2 Seconds) which causes the CPU to throttle and Games to Stutter. 90% of the Days I game less than 2 hours a Day, I try to be gentle and mostly succeed, never dropped it on a hard Surface or anything. It always sits in a raised Position so it can breathe properly. Does the Thermal Paste degrade this quickly? The Heatsink tens to appear cooling just fine, good Airflow and everything but everything else just runs hot.

I haven´t done this with a laptop, but with my old i7-2600k over the past 8 years until this august when I build my new i9-9900K. I changed thermal paste every 2-3 years. Last time in 2018 on the i7 and never experienced any problems. What induced problems however, was accumulation of dust in the aircooler-fins of the Intel stock aircooler. Because of that, I de-dusted the aircooler twice a year with compressed air. The following products were used by me: AAB Reinigungsspray 2 x 750ml, Druckluftreiniger, Druckluft Reinigung von Tastatur, PC, Keyboard, Bildschirmen, Spielekonsolen, Kopierer, Computergehäuse, Air Duster, Luft-Druck, Pressluft: Amazon.de: Bürobedarf & Schreibwaren ARCTIC MX-4 - Hochleistungs-Wärmeleitpaste für alle: Amazon.de: Computer & Zubehör
Jaws2002 Posted December 23, 2020 Posted December 23, 2020 (edited) Laptops in have crappy cooling. Gaming laptops in general are pretty bad. Otherwise this things wouldn't be selling as good as they do: https://www.google.com/search?q=laptop+cooling+pad&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwjNppaU_uTtAhVRAJ0JHV9NDL8Q2-cCegQIABAA&oq=laptop+cooling+&gs_lcp=CgNpbWcQARgBMgQIIxAnMgIIADIECAAQQzICCAAyAggAMgIIADICCAAyAggAMgIIADICCAA6BggAEAUQHlC-oAFYuKIBYOG3AWgAcAB4AIABWogBqgGSAQEymAEAoAEBqgELZ3dzLXdpei1pbWfAAQE&sclient=img&ei=T67jX43DItGA9PwP35qx-As&bih=1010&biw=2048&rlz=1C1GIVA_enCA875CA875 I use Kryonaut as well and it's been great for years.
