Flying Circus Woes

So the last couple of days I've got back into FC1 (due to the excitement of the FC2&3 announcement) and I'm sorry to say there are a couple small yet immersion breaking visuals and what seems to be a serious bug with the AI aircraft side designation.

-Firstly, (I think I mentioned this upon the initial release of the first few planes) has any else noticed that the valve rockers on the all Mercedes D.IIIa/aü and BMW IIIa engines slow down instead of speed up when the RPM is increased? I'm wondering whether this is a bug or possibly something wrong with my system (seems unlikely though...).

-Secondly, the bracing wires on the Fokker Dr.1 that cross in front of the cockpit clip through the barrels of the machine guns!

Obviously these things don't make the game unplayable or anything but I must confess it does irritate me a lot. (I'm a toolmaker and we do tend to be pedantic types...)

-Thirdly (and most importantly), I was flying the first mission of the Kaiserschlacht campaign today and I couldn't help notice that most of the AI aircraft were extremely passive (on both sides), not attacking and flying straight and level while I filled them full of lead. When I looked at the Events Log after the mission I noticed that I had shot down many "Friendly" Entente aircraft (although I did get 5 confirmed kills). This probably explains why my wingmen just flew in formation with me as I was downing passive SE5as. I also noticed the same passive behaviour from an SE5a in a 1v1 Quick Mission but didn't think to check the Events Log, I did however just do some more 1v1 tests and all the enemies (flying for both sides) and in these cases all enemies were aggressive but labelled "Friendly" in the Events Log.

Are you flying in VR? The visual bugs are likely related.

So in Quick Mission:

1) Enemy planes have passive behaviour... But they do fire at you right?

2) Are marked as 'friendly' in events log. This is a bug. And I think has to do with the fact that the coalitions are ' entente' and ' central powers' instead of WW2 coalitions . I also noticed that front lines colours don't show when I use these factions. They are always black/white.

Yes. But the clipping wires isn't VR related, other than it's easier to see in VR.

Are you using VR? Does the rockers work properly for you?

As I remember from the early days of FC, the dogfights with the Entente fighters were better than now.

SE5's, Spads, and Dolph's used to hi-yo yo and energy fight a bit, now these three boom you and run for the hills more often than not.

Often these planes as bots, fly a good bit away from the action and up to 3km+ altitude - defying their waypoint instructions.

The Camel and Bristol are currently the only bot options for a good Entente scrap.

Hello Soilworker,

I also had that problem with the rockers in VR.

There was some file where you had to change a value with the editor.

The solution was in a post in this forum, gonna look if I can find it.

Well, one did in the campaign when flying head on to me but other than that I didn't really give them the chance. I let one in 1v1 fire at me but they all, unlike in the campaign did defensive manoeuvres (to the point of destroying their engines or planes in some cases).

Nice one Panzer_Schultz for fishing this one out and nice one Rummell for the tip; works a treat and yes, my rocker gear is now correctly animated in VR. S!:salute:

Along similar lines: I was reviewing the FR of flights made the other day at Flugpark.  Had the icons on during replay; they are off when you're actually flying the mission.

That little truck at my aerodrome had a red "enemy" icon showing in the FR!   I was at the right field, too.

Maybe part of that "bug" VANDER mentioned?

First, those are aileron control cables; not bracing wires.  And on my FC1 triplane the gun muzzles are clear of the cables; don't know why yours looks otherwise.  Hope this helps.

CORRECTION:  I fly the triplane a lot but haven't yet in this new  update.  Just did and you're right: the aileron wires DO clip the muzzles.

Firstly, they are in fact bracing wires, the aileron control cables are situated further back, near the aft struts and do not cross. And secondly, if you start with "first" it should actually be "firstly" and you need follow up with "secondly" or "lastly".

Myes, you sir can nit-pick but I shall pick the nits off your nits! ☝️?
