How to... Quest 2?

Reaching out to the VR veterans amongst you: Just got myself a Quest 2 and did all the usual stuff (new Wifi6 router, VD quest, Sidequest, VD Streamer) - but for the life of myself I can't get Il2 to run in VR. I have to add that I was running it with my trusty old TrackIR5 not via Steam - instead preferring the 1C game launcher. 

 

I tried injecting or starting directly via desktop - result is the same: the game loads while I am staring at a VR space vector plain forever - never going into the game. Instead the game loads as app in the background while the desktop without mouse remains in the foreground - forcing me to Alt-Tab through the running apps closing them manually. Note: This is via Wifi connection - so no cable involved.

 

Any ideas? (my guess is I fouled up the configuration somewhere...) Advice welcome.

Are you making sure to run steamvr in steam before running il2 in VR mode?
Is it starting up in stereoscopic view (two images side by side) 
If not, perhaps add the or_enabled = 1 in your startup.cfg file.
