totalize Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 I see videos of inflight missions and the pilot views look like the person is wearing a VR headset is this the case or do most use the Track IR product?
ITAF_Airone1989 Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 (edited) VR video are "curve" and instable, TrackIR record is "flat". Here a couple of example, Track IR: VR: https://youtu.be/hzdeOvPDZdQ Edited December 19, 2020 by ITAF_Airone1989
Panzerlang Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 I'm going to assume VR footage is made from the sim's track recording. Correct?
SCG_ErwinP Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Bunch of guys here use Open Track + Cheap camera (such PS3 Eye). I did my own clip and modified PS3 Eye by myself (Open Track software is Freeware).

OBS + VR plug-in that allow you to record just one eye... Unfortunately even if I set 'record right eye' seems that it doesn't work with Reverb, so you see the left one (that's why is not aligned to the Revi). The Track IR video is made from the Sim's track recording 1
IckyATLAS Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 The VR video is very far from smooth. I clearly prefer TrackIR at least for now. VR will progress over the next coming years so the jury is still out. 2

It really amps up the immersion and makes me feel like I'm actually in an aircraft - good for those bad weather days when we cannot fly. 1

It is for this game worth every penny. But for DCS and FS 2020 I use second screen and instruments on some modules and find that more immersive

I agree and everything points to the excellent implementation of VR for IL2. I consider the whole hardware chain from CPU GPU to VR gear not optimal yet. I know that one day will come but I am not ready to give up the image quality (resolution, luminosity, contrast and detail) and the smooth animation that I have on my 43" 4K screen as well as the simplicity of use, with the VR added immersiveness but with the added constraints too. But I am sure it is only a matter of time. It is not if but when. I am patient no hurry. ? 1 1

Your opinion is based on not testing the HP Reverb g2 , feel free to buy or test one and you will see you can fly with an astounding quality in VR 1

I've never used Track IR, but open track seems to work extremely well for me. I bought the clip already made so I cheated a little, but for ~$40 out of pocket I am very happy.
totalize Posted December 22, 2020 Author Posted December 22, 2020 Thanks guys, I managed to dig up the PS3 camera/sensor which we got for our kids when they were young but don't use anymore. I will download the software but I guess i have to figure out how to mount it to the top of my monitor?
