JG1_Butzzell Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 S! All Maybe I am just slow or missed something in the update notes. We have all discussed the new terrain bumpiness. Well, there is a new setting in the Graphics Settings panel. You will find "Terrain Roughness". I believe the default setting is low. I think if we set this to High, we could get some flying tanks. The really big news is that you can turn it off and it still gets rid of soggy ground. There is still some bumpiness. Since this is a personal graphic, do not expect other players in PVP to have the same roughness or difficulty that you do. Now to launch a Tiger over a farm.......... 1 1 1
JG1_Butzzell Posted December 18, 2020 Author Posted December 18, 2020 S! ALL Maybe I am just slow or missed something in the update notes. We have all discussed the new terrain bumpiness. The really big news is that you can turn it off and it still gets rid of soggy ground. It does not smooth out everything but the FC planes now have about the same ability to land off field as RoF. Very nice indeed. Many thanks to Dev team! Now to launch a Tiger over a farm.......... 1
JG1_Wittmann Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Well, that is good to know. I went for a drive right after the update, having read about the upcoming " improvement " to terrain realism and was quite shocked. It's not just uneven and bumpy some places, it seemed to me like it was the same everywhere off road. Being able to catch air under a track almost, all while going 8MPH was really dumb. Almost as if the Tanks no longer had any suspension at all, and instead of going 8MPH were being represented as going 80 and had the weight of a prius. It became apparent very quickly that the persons that made the tanks behave like this, and anyone that was involved in any subsequent testing before it was released, has absolutely ZERO CLUES about tracked vehicle behavior going at very slow speeds, has never driven any kind of tracked vehicle or wheeled tractor for that matter in a field. I would nominate this as being the absolute, most ridiculous feature that had development time wasted on, but I can't bring myself to do that as it's effect on gameplay is not as troublesome as 2 other items, one of which was eventually corrected for the most part. 1) GunLock, you all know it, you all love it. This "feature" in my mind, has to be almost the most ridiculous, unnecessary waste of resources in pursuit of "realism" ( Detailed Pilot Uniforms wins that one hands down ! ) , and also quite easily the most bumbling, inept attempt. It almost seems to me like there is actually no person, or persons, in charge of development that decides what is worthwhile or not to spend time on. A basic free-for-all exists and these ideas are coming from a very clueless small group of individuals, or 1 individual, either in the community or simply just with the developers. What prompted GunLock to happen is beyond comprehension . 2) Gun Aiming Fix, 2019, making all tank guns act like the Sherman did ( which by the way, sucked very bad ! ) The guns and aiming them worked just fine, I can't honestly recall anyone on the forums posting that there was a problem, I could be wrong. I do know that no 1 said " hey, let's screw up the aiming, make it very imprecise and almost possible to control, and suck as bad, or worse than the sherman. That debacle took what, a year to fix ? I don't know that anyone here has ever figured out what prompted the change in the first place, or what could have possibly been hoped to gain by it. If I had to place a bet, I am leaning towards the Gun Aiming " fix " and Gunlock , originating from the same source ! The good news is, that the driveable AA gun trucks are in the works. Now, I remember awhile ago, when they released a patch that brought us the quad barreled german AA gun, and the Jagdpanzer IV, AI. It would seem to me, that had we not spent alot of time on foolishness, perhaps we could have these 2 items, and others in game by now as playable. We got the Ferdinand in game, but if I remember right, that was never an option as an AI vehicle back when the JP4 and quad gun were. The 2 new trucks coming are ok, having their single barreled guns, but the 2 or 4 barrel guns would be much more useful and effective.
TIGRE88 Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Wittmann I have never driven a tank in real life but it is true that I thought that the behavior of the tanks seemed a bit exaggerated since the terrain update! I don't know if I'm right or wrong but I still tell myself that the tanks have a suspension which is used precisely to remedy the deformations of the terrain .. it gives the impression that the terrain is really hyper hyper dented or the tanks are tractors ! i have already drive a Tractor
JG1_Wittmann Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 I did not realize the default setting was " Low " Now that is very funny. This is more representative of a lifeboat, or dinghy in rough seas than a 20+ ton vehicle crossing a field at 8mph. Very good to know that it can be turned off. I only wish we had that ability to turn off for the ever favorite gunlock debacle !
