1PL-Sahaj-1Esk Posted December 18, 2020 Posted December 18, 2020 Is it only me or do we have more flamers since the last patch? At least half of my kills after the patch were flamers and I saw more planes going down in flames than before. Only coincidence? Also the new sounds while throwing around the aircraft are cool, sound more like on a ship sometimes, anyway better than no sound.

When FC1 first came out, my first kill was a SPAD: I flamed his top center wing tank and it streamed flame back into the pilot's face. I'd never noticed that happening before in RB, WOFF, or ROF; and some time after that first installment I think it stopped happening because I couldn't recall ever seeing it again. So that's how I became interested in the subject, and decided to become a fuel tank flaming specialist. I study the fuel systems of all planes and strive to hit those points whenever possible. I can be pretty methodical with my technique in SP; and when hitting the target isn't a problem, changes in flammability become apparent. So over the past three updates, I've been testing the flammability of SPAD wing tanks. I fly the D7F in SP Duels against Novice Bots in the 13; make it as easy on myself as I can; trying to test the tank, not my dogfighting abilities. Each Duel has five SPADS; one at a time. We engage head-on at 300 meters; I evade his attack and get into position where I can, with a fair degree of accuracy, put short bursts into the fuel tank, engine, and cockpit area. Without going back to count the FR's, I think I've flown about 250 sorties that way. I'm getting to where I can shoot instinctively under those conditions pretty consistently. And here's what I've seen in the past few months until today. For a while I was shooting 'em up good but they wouldn't burn. Almost never. I could get 'em streaming fuel easily; but they wouldn't ignite. In the update before now, it seems to me tanks did start burning more often. After only shooting off wings for a while, I came back and on that first sortie flamed three out of five. It wasn't always like that, though. Without going back to count: maybe ten or twelve out of the last fifty were burners? And remember: I'm making it as easy on myself as I can and I am having no problem hitting the target in SP. If I'm torching 20% under those "sitting duck" circumstances, that doesn't seem excessive. It's not a sure thing. I had mentioned elsewhere about the flaming wing tank. Really been looking into that lately. What I see is the tank can be holed and knocked ajar; it can trail fuel mist but not a stream of flame. In the update prior to this most fires were contained inside the fuselage. What I'm noticing now is an abundance of flame on top of the guns and cowling and I take that to symbolize the fuel had drained down on top of the guns and was burning. Not the blowtorch I think it should be; but it's something, at least. All that said to illustrate the answer to your question: does it seem they are burning easier with the last update? Maybe just slightly so, yes. At least, that's how it feels to me. But I don't think it's excessive or unrealistic. I was surprised by that first three-of-five; but it evened out after a while. Right now it seems about right. I still experiment with it daily. ADDIT: Oh, and the pilots are fireproof now, too. They can sit in that fireball adjusting their goggles all the way to the ground. Seeing that in SP and MP both. Heh! Edited December 18, 2020 by Todt_Von_Oben Additional Inspiration.

Didn't see many flamers but maybe that was because I was pilot killed three times last night.
1CGS LukeFF Posted December 18, 2020 1CGS Posted December 18, 2020 Nothing has changed with the damage model.

Maybe no changes have been made that you're aware of; or (if you're right) maybe it's the unintentional result of changes elsewhere in the sim. But, as I have studied, seen, and documented in FR: the way planes flame in FC1 has changed significantly at least three times during 2020.

Could just be random runs making it looks like there was a change. People tend to assume that a random series - of say heads vs tails in coin tosses - should be much more evenly distributed than in fact they usually are. That is how human hand made "random" series are detected: there are not enough runs. Given the statement that nothing has changed on the DM from LukeFF, if you want to convince on this you will have to share your data, as a list of test shootdowns in date order, flamed vs non-flamed. Then either yourself or someone else do a runs test on it.
1PL-Husar-1Esk Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 There were no info about any changes in beta channel in that regard, but I must admit that in that one day testing online I saw and flamed significantly more aircrafts than for entire month before. So there might be small fixes in the code which were not mentioned by devs (like one number can increased probability )or other unforeseen consequences , like the bugs which they made by working with the game code and do not know about them until someone from outside find them out.
Zooropa_Fly Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Something has fixed trains carriages jiggling about like crazy. I didn't see anything noted in any update about it (was always looking for it), but since the last one it's no longer a problem. If only they'd 'fix' the ww1 tanks so they could kill each other again ! Not sure I've noticed more flamers recently, but I'll keep an eye out. S!

I could forward it , if you can made small mission reproducing the tank bug.
Zooropa_Fly Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Thanks Husar, If you see 'The Twilight Zone' mission on 'A Zoo Wings Server' - there's 2 opposing tanks about 20M apart blasting each other... endlessly. I think one of them re-spawned once ! But it could have been hit by a crashing plane. I've not seen a tank kill another tank for months - they used to be able to despatch one another after a dozen or two hits. This is the same in all missions, and not only on the Arras map. I think I put a report in a while back about it. If anyonme has any contrary experiences.. S!
