May have seen this before ,but I see that 109F skins in Great Battles can be used in COD as Emil skin with some editing.

Made this from GB F-2Early  generic skin.

Converted dds file to jpg file and edited in Gimp.

f2.jpg

Takes some editing to get it right. Especially around nose and wing tips. Still don't know what part of skin relates to those bumps on top of cowling.

Beautiful skin!!

I also made a skin for Emil, originally from a G6.

For this part, you'll have to erase the original F2 air intake... What I did? In the skin, I copied the right side to the left side...

Those bumps over the nose, after the machine guns, are here:

This is the final result:

I am most anxious to have more historically correct Bf-109F skins for CloD.Can the ones in GB BoX be used as well??

The skins for the Fseries from GBBoX can be used1 There is a glitch however in the spinner, even if it is all black.Perhaps some bright lad will figure it out, but for now here's an example:

Nice. You got me curious however. Guess all skins are in .../PaintSchemes/Skins ... there's a great variety in sizes and complexity, some seem really basic and simple. A totally differing layout so i guess you did a lit of reorganizing the layout and quite a bit of work. An then the testing without a skin viewer ..

Can you simply replace the smaller ones using the same name with a new content, even at 2k (seems max size)?

Also can you even add new skins in the individual plane folders using a name of their own?

Bringing this back from the dead. Any enterprising skinners fancy making a step by step guide?

Just thinking of a way to bring a variety of skins to CloD (with credit to the original artist), is it just a few bumps and the spinner?

Just porting across completed .dds files has a potential issue though- Clod doesnt provide the user with access to details - only the paint layer - so anything ported across would be doubling up the lines and rivets which could em look too heavy (though clos has heavy lines as it stands). At worst the lines may not completely match (though in the case of the Clod 109E and Bf110s (possibly also the Macchi as that was also Clod abandonware I think)) it shouldnt be far off their Box equivalents if not identical provided nothing was changed after they were brought from the ashes of clod into BoX).

There are some Clod skins with lines included as stock and many more (capt Farrells for instance) user made, so importing one of those into the Box Template and scaling em up to 4096x4096 should provide an easy spot comparison to check accuracy of panels lines etc if the opacity slider is used. That would be the easiest starting point. Using a part finder layer is also a "good to have".

This would also be useful in quickly working out how to hybrid the F skins into an E by simply deleting those aspects of the F skin that dont fit and working out which aspects of the E you need to bring in.

Porting across 109F2s should be a straight swaps as they were based on identical assets though again, it would be better with just the paint layers given the F2 variables of tail re-enforcement and (I think)wing sections. Certainly the F4 skins would need some additional work if ported over complete, likely the F1s as well. Even though TFS and 777 may have worked independently to produce their Fs, this is little to no difference in the skinning plates.

Once you are happy all is how it should be position wise, you can use the BoX and its viewer to fine tune stuff a lot of stuff certainly with the 109s and early 110s before copying the skin into Clod.

Finally- there is the 2K/4K thing. I cant remember if 4K works in Clod but it would seem pointless porting over a load of 2K skins if 4K is supposedly around the corner but its easy to make em in 4K and scale a version back.

Crediting the original author is a nice idea. The majority of Box templates that would suit CloD are 777/ICDP so they should get a look in to especially if weathering layers are being used to enhance the skin.

This may be of some help:

4k in COD: Yes 4k skins work in game, referring to personal past in game tests.

Box F templates working in COD: Depends on what layers are turned on or off and adjusted. If memory serves, exhaust and oil under plane is a little different and the trop versions in COD have parts added that are non existent in Box. For example the external air dust filter.

Referring to the original artists is a nice way to say thank you for their time as well. It adds good old fashioned honest support within a community and may encourage further participation.

Step by step guides are better provided by what ever software method suits the journey.

There are COD templates available here within this website. All you really need for a COD skin to work in game is the livery layer. You could add a weathering layer, but may need to turn the weathering feature off in game in order to better see your efforts in game.

Regarding a skin viewer: You can view your selected aircraft prior to committing/running the mission etc.

Regards

I put a really nice f2 JG2 Heinzeller,  Schnauzl    "Schnauzer"  long description sorry in Cliffs of Dover and it worked well. Just a few tweaks with the C3 fuel patch and one of the round panel covers. So far that's what I can see.. That's not in Cliffs of Dover yet.

Would it be possible once you have the process worked out, to create a Photoshop action for it? Then you could batch convert a folder?

Gosh I have no idea MP you should know by now you're chatting with the wrong person for anything really technical. What I do is use an old paint shop pro  and clone brush over things that need to be changed. Sometimes it's easy to cut and paste little sections that need to be altered then clone around the edges. Looks perfect. Cut and paste panels back in that you've coloured over et. That type of thing. Very easy to do Layers on the other hand, I have no clue how to do that. I should learn though. Like I said in another post in ATAG I must have 2000 pictures of 109s and 400 profiles. There's probably even photoshop classes for dummy's taught now and then at night over at the high school a mile down the road      :salute:
