Il2 bos cant map esc key to hotas

First off if I'm posting in the wrong area I truly apologize.  I'm trying to map the esc key to a button on my hotas. I've done this about a year ago but now it doesnt work. It says its mapped in the key bindings but it doesnt work when I press the button. Any help

Ah yes, this was a source of frustration to me too, I solved it by using JoyToKey. It's also really good for turning joystick buttons into modifiers.

Yeah I tried the same not long ago and did not work for me either.

JoytoKey works for me as well. Just make sure you don't create any conflicts with your in-game key mappings.

I think I'll just grab me a mini wireless keyboard and velcro it to my left leg like fighter pilots do ?
