In the MP mission I am developing, I set the objectives to attack as red and the one to defend as blue (regardless of the country you play).
Some players tell me it is contrary to the BOS etiquette ? and that I should use blue = Axe and Red = Allies instead.
Is it true? I think I saw some servers using one system and others do the opposite so I am a bit confused.

There's a number of reasons why I believe the color settings for missions should be blue for Axis and red for Allies.

1) The board game Axis & Allies used blue forces for Axis and Red forces for Allies.

2) The IL2 Basic Options Menu screen has an option to make Russian red, and it's the default color setting. I believe the devs wouldn't have done this if they didn't feel red should be Allies.

3)The Russian, British, and USA airfield icon color (in the game) is red. The German icons are black. Yet again, making the Allies red.

4) Typically, Russian planes have red markings and German planes have yellow markings. Another point of why allies should be red on the map.

5) Other games make Axis blue and Allies red.

and many more games...

6) Nearly all of the main servers run red as Allies, blue as Axis - Finnish, Wings of Liberty, TAW, and Combat Box

7) Other reasons that I can't think of

All this said, the editor's entity colors are BACKWARDS for some reason!!

Over the years of working in the editor, I've glossed over this fact, but I can see why it would cause confusion for someone just starting in the editor. I'd not worry so much about the color of entities in the editor as long as you're using the correct color scheme in the game.

I use 'cover' icons for Axis (since they're blue), and 'attack' icons for Allies.

The color of my subtitle messages, borders, attack arrows and more are:

Axis:

40, 95, 120

Allies:

140, 10, 10

Good luck

thanks for the detailed explanation. OK let's go with the axis=blue, allies=red then. At least I won't need two objective icons for each different objective then, so less work ?!

Sketch, the above seems like a really great convention to follow.  Do you mind if I borrow it for my next set of Playground missions I'm working on?
