Mysticpuma Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Hi 1C. I really am now enjoying BoX but sometimes the effects just leave me wanting more. I know in previous posts Jason has said there is no effects team and curreny no budget for it (from memory so may not be verbatim) but is there consideration for the effects to be given an overhaul at some point, maybe in the coming year? Visual effects are a key to the immersion and currently (to my eye) they just seem a bit cartoonish? The very thick black engine/aircraft fire smoke is so over the top, the locomotive smoke glowing bright white, the ground explosion from aircraft impact is very generic and so on. I would love to see features (visual) where hydraulics fail and wheels slowly drop from the wing as pressure seeps away, engine/control and surface ires eb and flow rather than be a persistent flame, smoke much less thick unless from a fuel tank fire destroying the aircraft, etc, etc. Visually there is much to love about BoX but the effects really could do with some TLC please. This reads like a complaint but it really is just a request for info. to see if there is consideration for an effects overhaul, even if it is put out to tender in the modding community to come on board and help (officially). Cheers, MP
[DBS]Browning Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 Muzzle flash effect changes are coming soon, so there is some progress in the area.
Mysticpuma Posted December 10, 2020 Author Posted December 10, 2020 Not really sure how this is in the suggestions thread as it was asking for information?
Vastarien Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I’m still waiting for them to rework how the propellers are rendered when rotating. Now they are just grey low-polygons disks. But I have hope. 1

Hmm.... well, I'm usually the one who complains about SFX being over done (e.g. in the initial revisions to Cliffs by Team Fusion I thought they were very over done - fixed now though). That said... lighting a WW2 aircraft on fire isn't something any of us have seen. Some of the footage does suggest very bright flames and very large amounts of black smoke were possible though. As for locomotive smoke - if you've seen steam from a pulp-mill in a Canadian winter... it can be very luminous. A lot could depend on lighting, atmospheric conditions, and what the locomotive is burning (e.g. the amount of ash mixed into the smoke).
354thFG_Panda_ Posted December 28, 2020 Posted December 28, 2020 A cool visual effect could be wing flex. Im not sure how hard it would be to model properly but it would make the aircraft feel more alive
Bremspropeller Posted December 31, 2020 Posted December 31, 2020 I'd love to see improved wingtip streamers. They could be 100m or more, trailing behind a WW2 fighter. Sh1tty quality, but you get the idea: Not just under maneuvering, but also in level flight at high Cl: The occurence depends on lots of things like relative humidity and the lift-distribution of the wing. Higher loaded wings tend to show streamers earlier (under lower g) than lower loaded wings. 3
