I.JG3_CDRSEABEE Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Seems there are many on here that have changed motherboards and cpus recently. Does anyone have a good article and/or video for the proper procedure without loosing all the data on the hard drive. I see all kinds of suggestions like deleting programs and drivers etc. I want to keep all my programs without having to reinstall it all. I am running Windows 10 retail. Upgrading Asus to newer Asus board and same with Intel chip. Thanks
dburne Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 A bit of a chore really, but myself I always prefer to do a clean install of all my programs when I build a new system. To me it is worth the extra effort to have a fresh install of everything, kind of cleans the cobwebs out. 1
unlikely_spider Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I've heard bad stories of Windows instability after changing the motherboard and not re-installing Windows. I'd not feel safe doing that, because you never know what conflicts still reside under the hood, and if that is the cause anytime something goes wrong in the future. Yes, it is a pain, but I'd highly recommend just taking stock of what you have installed, backing up your files and user configs in software such as IL-2, and starting anew.
I.JG3_CDRSEABEE Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 I guess if I move everything( games/ mods/apps) to my d drive, I can reformat c which has windows on it.
