Panzerlang Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) Does anyone know if it's possible to play IL2 through SteamVR on the G2 without the MS bag-o-shite WMR? I'm in little doubt it's that which is causing so much monumental grief (never had anything like it with either of the Oculus sets). Edited December 8, 2020 by J3Hetzer

Btw it can be a bit of a pain in the rear to get setup and working with Steam VR for the Reverb G2. However many have done so already and can probably help shorten the curve for ya if you would state what issue you are having and what you have tried. 1
Panzerlang Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) I've reached a point where I *think* I might have been able to stop the WMR window from displaying the cliff house. When that Cliffhouse is displaying it hits the Windows Desktop Management in Task Manager at over 60% GPU. With it off the window shows the SteamVR room instead and that averages around 8%. At that point IL2 launches flawlessly. It requires a reg edit and it seemed to take a couple of goes to 'bite'. There does seem to be a hard requirement to follow. Do NOT have the headset already powered up when starting windows. Do NOT fire up WMR before launching IL2. First go the Cliffhouse sometimes displays but thereafter the window displays only the SteamVR room after leaving the game. The WMR (un reg-edited) loads three extra virtual desktops behind the scenes and I think that's what's been causing the problem. Maybe. I'll need a few more runs to confirm. Stolle Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 When you close the WMR portal (cliff house) does windows leave something running in the background? I'm not sure how you might actually start your game up, but after windows boots up I usually close the WMR portal. Then I open WMR for Steam VR and open up the desktop with one of the controllers in the Steam VR room. I start the game from the desktop.
chiliwili69 Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I think it would be helpful for many of us who will have (or already have) a G2 to have a pinned post with the steps that one has to follow to install and run G2 with IL-2. And some of the options like Motion smoothing or tricks. There is many useful info dispersed in many threads. Any volunteer? ?

I'm running on a GTX1080Ti and have set IL2 to a mixture of low, med and high settings and it runs flawlessly. FPS from 45 to 90, no stuttering or ghosting, absolutely smooth as silk. That's without having done anything in headset settings. It pisses all over the Q2's performance, which had all the usual ticks, stutters, jumps and ghosting. And everything in-game looks glorious. Without knowing if the issues I had were peculiar to my system there's not much point in me recommending the regedit mod. But, currently... Power-up the headset. WMR window fires up. Hit IL2 launch button, IL2 launches and I have mouse cursor. Play game, quit, window now shows the SteamVR house and it works perfectly. Close window, disconnect headset power. C6_lefuneste Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I do not know for the G2, but I'm using the G1 and I used a Pimak in the past and for both of them Il2 is not using reprojection very well (unlike DCS). You should try to target a constant 60 fps without reproj. instead of having 90 fps reprojected to 45.

I changed my G2 resolution to 100% yesterday morning, flew my PWCG campaign all day yesterday mostly at 45 fps and it was good for me. Image quality was gorgeous. So I definitely agree.
