41Sqn_Skipper Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 I'm using the Reverb G2 and want to experiment with "Motion Smoothing" feature. I can't enable it globally (or can I?) and IL2 doesn't show up in the "per-application video settings". I use the non-steam version of IL-2.
dburne Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Yes you can enable Motion Smoothing for IL-2. 1st: Non-Steam games will not show up by default in the Steam Library which is why you do not see it listed. If you have IL-2 Running and go to that Steam VR settings menu, you will then see IL-2 listed and can enable it from there. 2nd: Alternatively, you can add non-Steam games to your Steam Library, it is a little convoluted and you may have to dig a bit but it is in there, first add it in Steam to your Library, and then do the same in Steam VR. Then it will show up as an application you can set in there. Be careful Steam may ask you if you wish to merge it with Steam, you do not want to do this.
41Sqn_Skipper Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Got it! So when I have it enabled, I need to maintain 45fps while using the 90Hz mode of the G2. Can I use the in-game FPS counter to verify this and does it have to show 45fps or 90fps then?

It should show either 45 or 90, however in IL-2 at times it may show 44 or 89, which I am sure is still pretty much 45 or 90. Probably just something unique with IL-2 way of showing FPS.
41Sqn_Skipper Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 I tried "Force always-on" but it doesn't seem to do anything (FPS is shown to be above 45 and below 90, shouldn't it look to either 45 or 90). How do I tell its on/off?

Jaegerschnitzel Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 You have to enable motion reprojection in "WMR for Steam VR" before you can use it with SteamVR games. To do so, enter your SteamVR-Home. Then take one of your controllers and push the menu button. At the lower left of the now appearing overlay there is the WMR-logo. Choose it. Then the "WMR for Steam VR-Settings" open. Go to graphics and change motion reprojection to "Set by SteamVR" ("Disabled" is default I think, that´s propably why you alway get something in between 45 and 90 fps). After that you can go back to SteamVR and try different per game settings. It´s explained here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/using-steamvr-with-windows-mixed-reality#enabling-motion-reprojection-for-steamvr-apps 1 1
41Sqn_Skipper Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) Thank you, it's working now and if it's working it always shows 45fps and never goes above it. Edited December 8, 2020 by 41Sqn_Skipper

Going to try an uninstall and reinstall of Steam VR. Edit: Nope no dice, can not get the dash panel overlay to open for me. Strange. I do love my new Reverb G2, but so miss the simplicity of my Oculus headset. Steam and Steam VR can be quite frustrating at times. Edited December 9, 2020 by dburne 1
41Sqn_Skipper Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 (edited) You can only open it in the SteamVR room. So when in the SteamVR room press the left trigger. You don't need SteamVR/WMR beta. The dashboard has buttons at the bottom, the 3rd from left are the WMR specific settings. Then it looks like shown in this gif: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/enthusiast-guide/images/settingsux-enable-lsr.gif Edited December 9, 2020 by 41Sqn_Skipper 1

I even tried launching it from it's executable and it would not. Uninstalled Steam VR and reinstalled and still nothing.

For the G2 it is a quick press of the button to the right of the menu button on the right controller. I thought I had tried all the buttons but apparently not or I did not do a quick press of that one. Edited December 9, 2020 by dburne

In the developer tab you can also enable a icon that shows you if motion smoothing clicked in, helpful if you have it on auto. I have it always enabled, IIRC I've read some comments that it causes stuttering before it kicks in. Get fpsVR if you don't have it already! It's worth the 3€.

Yes I do have it but really yesterday I spent most of the day flying PWCG missions and for me it did great. Might try forcing it on also so it is always at 45 fps.
Varibraun Posted January 17, 2021 Posted January 17, 2021 Just a quick "thanks" to everyone in this thread. I finally had a change to work through all this now that my G2 VR lenses arrived and pointing me to the controller (of all things) as the key to being able to actually use the reprojection saved me a lot of frustration!
