Can you add and play a track that has been recorded on a machine other than the one you're playing on?

Should be able to, as long as you are playing it back on the same version that it was recorded on. Note that as well as the track file (*.trk) you need to have the corresponding folder., with the same name

No, the folder will be in the same place as the track file - it has further needed files in it. You need to copy the lot over.
