ronny_schmidt*93 Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 I just wanted to ask if there is any information about the release date, my intention is to buy it now in advance but I have doubts since I will not have much time to dedicate it and enjoy it after January and i do not know if it is convenient for me to pay for it now. Thanks for any information.
DD_Crash Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Nothing definite, but expected 2022. We will get aircraft over the next 12 months and maybe the map as well.

Thanks for any information. We don't know the release date but we can make a guess at how long it will take. The way that 1CGS works is that they announce a title and have started working on it around the same time. They develop the title over approximately 2-years and release aircraft and other types of content over the development period. So, far only the Bf109G-6 Late and P-47D-22 have been released and I suspect releases will pick-up through 2021 as we've seen plenty of work in progress materials on more than one aircraft. I think most of us are guessing that final release will be somewhere early in 2022 although it will feel closer to being complete by this time next year. I'm keeping a running tally of what we know here: https://stormbirds.blog/product-roadmaps/il-2-great-battles-roadmap/ 3
ronny_schmidt*93 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Thank you very much for the answers i guess i'll just have to wait ?
357th_KW Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 If you are looking to play the game and interested in late war Western Europe, Battle of Bodenplatte has a lot to offer.

Check out Bodenplatte in the meantime. The two connect extremely well with the Normandy campaign ending not too far before the Bodenplatte campaign picks up.

Flying the Russian planes in the old Il-2 led me to a lot more reading about the Eastern Front of WWII. That bugger Oleg tricked me into educating myself. 1 2 3
Dagwoodyt Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 For me it is all about the map. The only plane that might get me into early access would be the Mossie. I doubt the Tiffy will feel much different than the Tempest.

The relationship between lift, drag, and rotational moments in a turn should all be different. Plus, it'll have 8xRP-3 rockets. 1 1

Still fast (not quite as much) but with that thick wind, the whole handling of the aircraft will be different. Slow to roll (one of the slowest in WWII), with dive limits due to flutter effects (not sure if we'll be getting the late model that largely solves that), Mark II Hispanos instead of Mark V Hispanos, and a whole other role. The Typhoon in 1944 was essentially the RAF's IL-2 (or the 9th Air Force's P-47) and was used for close air support rather than tactical fighter sweep missions.

For the most part, yes, but in looking through the RAF ORBs you will find them flying the occasional escort missions or, in the case of one particular squadron, air-to-air missions were all they flew. Just in case people think the Typhoon was flying ground attack missions exclusively in 1944-45. 1 1
=621=Samikatz Posted December 12, 2020 Posted December 12, 2020 A late Typhoon, while not the fastest thing in the expansion, should be very fast at low altitude and it wasn't a bad turner, too. They will be much more capable at biting back and defending themselves than any Il-2, I think 1

It still had teeth as a fighter! 1

Yes, if I gather it correctly - the hope was that it would become the RAF interceptor, but poor high altitude performance meant that they were deployed mainly against the Fw-190 fighter-bombers (which were a major source of bombing attacks against England in '41-'42... and basically constituted the last day-bombers to attack England) as the Fw-190s would attack at low altitude (even below radar level) and only the Tiffys could run them down reliable. Then in 1943 they received bombs and started to replace the venerable Hurrican II "Hurribombers" and in '44 they received rockets... the Typhoon as most people know it was in its later years as a Hurribomber replacement but it started out as a fighter and interceptor (where it did reasonably well). Did I get anything wrong? 1 2
