[80 years ago today] "• The Fairey Barracuda dive/torpedo bomber has its maiden flight. Failure of its intended Rolls Royce Exe 24 cylinder engine leaves it underpowered with a Merlin 30 V-12 and three bladed propeller. It will continue to be developed and only enter service in early 1943 as the Mark II with a Merlin 32 engine and a four bladed prop. "
