Eldur Posted December 15, 2020 Posted December 15, 2020 Wow, such a great thing to see in this very year. Someone told me about it in some YouTube comments, totally didn't know about the announcement of an announcement since it's not in the announcement section TBH, I'll be glad about any of the RoF planes coming in there, but I'd also appreciate some new assets like the Snipe or even things that have been discussed a lot back then like the Junkers D.I or the Bristol M.1. I really would like to see the FC series expand past what RoF had, especially though with multi seat planes especially for the early period, to finally have an actual Fokker Scourge for example. Oh, and airships... But actually, what I'd really want most to get back from RoF is that optional HUD overlay at the bottom with actual gauges. That was soooooo much better in RoF, while the way it's done in Il-2 GB just is balls in comparison TBH, because it gives way less info. In RoF, everything was there, including radiator settings - so no technochat needed to be able to see your settings at all that weren't perfectly visible by some levers or gauges in the cockpit, just pop up the instrument overlay shortly to double check - and it was very compact at the same time. You could even see your current RPM limitations depending on engine temps so you were able to "learn" them by using those gauges for a while, especially when warming up the engine before takeoff (which I love having to do!). Even more importantly, I do want to see the full size map again in its big mode using the whole screen. Especially in VR, the map in Il-2 GB literally is useless as I can't read anything on it even with zooming in on it in both sizes because it's pixelated so much. Just having the big one like in RoF alone would simply nail it. On 12/10/2020 at 10:21 PM, BornToBattle said: “Lands fine”? Geeeeez...I don’t know if I ever succeeded in getting that big monster off the ground, let alone land it! Now you’ve got me thinking, so I’m gonna go fire up ROF this afternoon. It’s been a long time since I’ve done that. Almost feel guilty really. You really have to think inside the chimney there. 1) You don't have rudder authority at all with little or no speed. Two engines and just one vertical stabilizer in between the propwashes 2) Your ailerons act like airbrakes - the one hanging down drags a lot - basically that means, if you want to steer on the ground, besides throttling the engines separately, you can use aileron inputs, but in the other direction. So push your stick right if you want to turn left on the ground and vice versa 3) The margin between your stall and max level speed is rather small, you have to be able to stay in there well enough - which can get tough when trying to land. Do long and shallow approaches, plan them accordingly to get around patches of trees 4) One thing that applies to most planes in FC / RoF: You slow down better on the ground when pulling the stick aft and having some thrust pushing the tail down - also it's easier to taxi with the stick forward So the most important thing to remember actually is to use opposite aileron instead of rudder input to steer the thing on the ground, which is at speeds of up to ~60-80kph until the rudder actually does something noticable. 1
