I am reinstalling IL-2, or trying to, but it is apparently unwilling to do so as it just shows the startup splash screen with a bar at the bottom that says "Downloading game client (2.16/25.96 GB), 0/s".  It did appear to be downloading files yesterday.  I was thinking I could finish the download today.

Thanks for any thoughts/ideas on how to fix this.

What do you mean with reinstalling? Do you try to install the game over the existing installation? Or do you run/manage your game via Steam?

If you're trying to reinstall your game over an existing installation, then try to delete the whole content of your update folder in your game's main

directory.

You may also try to reinstall - like a fresh installation - the game in a new folder/directory/drive. While doing this, do not delete/modify your

existing installation. Make sure the new installation got through and you can launch the game without any issues.

If you are running the game via STEAM then may be it is better to check the integrity of the game's files and folders - this method will check

and if necessary add missing files.

Cheers

P.S.: Make sure - in any way - to make a copy of your input folder which stores your keybindings, input devices config etc.

And maybe you want also make a copy of your startup.cfg file, which stores all your other settings.

I am installing the game again after having uninstalled it previously.  I had it almost completely download again, but then this started happening.  I deleted everything in the updates directory, which worked to get it going again.  Downside is I am now starting over the download from scratch.  Hopefully it will work this time.

Well, there may be some people, yes, but I wouldn't say that many - they are still in the minority. And most of them did actually resolve the issue. So, sorry, but your comment

isn't very helpful here, although I definitely understand your frustration.

What I observed concerning this issue is, that when you choose any location/folder but the default path, you have good chances not to run into trouble with the installation

or updates of the game. Windows OS does some weird things with the access rights/file management. I have two installations - one through STEAM and the other one,

which I use for SP and mods - and I never ever ran into troubles with it. But as already mentioned, I never used the default installation path for any of these installations.

This was on my old computer, but I did solve the problem before I upgraded so I thought I'd post my fix just in case it might help someone else.

Fix was easy.  It turns out that I had run out of space on my SSD.  After I cleared up some space on the drive then IL-2 installed just fine.
