Help with engine management setup

Hey folks, I am looking for some help with setting up my controls for complex engine management as I transition from WWI to WWII planes. I fly in VR, so I cannot quickly access keyboard controls. I have three basic questions.

 

1) How do I know what engine controls a specific plane needs? for example, most BF109's have options for manual control of oil and water radiators, prop pitch, etc. but are normally operated in automatic. Thus all I really need to fly a 109 is throttle. Other planes have options for mixture, oil and water radiators, boost, prop pitch, etc. but I have no idea which planes have automatic controls or not.

 

2) What engine controls are common across most aircraft? For example, every plane has a throttle control, but only the Fokker D.VIIF has an altitude throttle. Obviously I must have throttle to fly anything, but I only need to bind altitude throttle if I plan to fly the D.VIIF.

 

3) what engine controls can be bound to the same input? for example, the every plane with an altitude throttle lacks mixture control, and every plane with mixture control lacks altitude throttle. Thus I can safely assign the altitude throttle to the same input as mixture.

I highly recommend the youtube channel from Requiem. He goes over each plane's controls, taxiing, taking off, and landing, all using the usually manual controls (e.g. he does not switch from automatic to manual in the Bf-109 as most people fly that way). Der Sheriff's youtube channel has some vids that go into more depth, as does IFlyCentral's.

Thanks WWDarkdiz, that's exactly what I was looking for. Most of the other resources point in the right direction, but it was the plane-specific controls that I was looking for.
