PatrickAWlson Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 https://www.besttimetovisit.co.za/russia/kuban-3379518/ Precipitation on nearly half the days. Is Kuban really that wet?
Juri_JS Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 The data is for the village Kuban in Oblast Lipezk. 2
[CPT]milopugdog Posted November 26, 2020 Posted November 26, 2020 (edited) Location being incorrect or not, I decided to look more into the Caucasus Mountains as a final research paper about their formation, the type of rock present, and also the type of weathering you could encounter in the range for one of my classes last spring. So geographically speaking, there probably is some sort of rain shadow coming off of the range, I think it should be toward the Southern area of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains instead of what we see in-game, which are the Northern Greater Caucasus Mountains. Due to operations in the higher atmosphere, the prevailing Westerlies are heading more North than East; which is why the rain shadow is from the South. So, while some sort of a rain shadow could be formed off of the Black Sea off the Greater Caucasus, most of it will be experienced in areas around Syria, Iraq, and Iran. I'm not sure if that really helps at all, but hopefully it gives an idea of what to expect. Edited November 26, 2020 by [CPT]milopugdog Grammar, Diagram 2
AndyJWest Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 A few relevant datapoints, from Wikipedia - though it might be better to check their original sources: Kerch: average 111 rainy days per year, average 30 snowy days per year, average annual precipitation 17.9 inches. Krasnodar: average 150 rainy days per year, average 39 snowy days per year, average annual precipitation 28.9 inches. Gelendzhik: average annual precipitation 30.34 inches. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerch#Climatehttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krasnodar#Climate https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gelendzhik#Climate You may be able to find data for more locations on Wikipedia, but I'd say that yes, it seems Kuban can be quite wet.
Noisemaker Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 And somehow, I've yet to see rain in my almost finished Kuban career...

Freycinet Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 Also, St. Petersburg is much hotter than I thought it would be... https://weather.com/weather/tenday/l/St.+Petersburg+FL?canonicalCityId=522e306efa347c0a24b0171e3f862d10b39488621c1ca75ee5ca1f690b45ab56 ? 1
