Hello all,

I am a longtime player of RoF and have just started trying to play the Flying Circus.  The issue is that the half dozen times I have tried to get on the new game and start figuring things out, the game just shuts down and disappears.  I have to completely restart the game.  I'm not very savvy with these things as others may be and my only thought is that maybe the graphics are set to high for my computer?  I didn't want to just start guessing st it yet without asking others opinions.  Hoping it's something simple.  Thanks

Branden

If your graphics setting were too high you'd see stutters and degraded performance. The application wouldn't crash. I'm assuming it crashed back to Windows desktop rather than causing a system lockup requiring you to power down and restart (or hit the restart button).

That likely means that the issue is software related and could be from out of date drivers, a missing Windows update, or any number of software related issues.

A couple of things to do:

1) Make sure Windows is up to date

2) Make sure your graphics drivers are up to date

3) Check the event logs from the crash and copy and paste the cause here (just copy the whole log). Here's how you find it: https://support.whatfix.com/v2/docs/how-to-identify-the-cause-of-an-app-crash-on-windows-os

Yes you are correct, it just went back to Windows and no restart of the computer was necessary.  Thanks for the reply, I will post again shortly with the event log etc.

I've checked and updated graphics and Windows.  Problem still persists.

Ok, with that information in hand we now know a little bit more about what's going on. Exception code: 0xc0000005 is also known as a "memory access violation."

With you having checked that drivers and software is up to date I'm starting to learn towards looking at hardware for the possible source of the problem. IL-2 and other flight sims are often the software that best exposes potential hardware issues that may not otherwise crop up during normal windows use (i.e. browsing the web, watching a video on YouTube, writing an e-mail, etc.).

How much RAM do you have in your system? To rule out RAM issues, it might be a good idea to run memtest86. It's free and although it takes a little setup work it can help expose a potential hardware issue. https://www.memtest86.com/

Ok well,

I should say first that I appreciate your help.  Looks like it's turning into a computer problem and not the game.  At any rate.  I have 16GB of RAM and I was not able to do the memory test because every USB stick I put into the computer only showed a folder called "System volume information".  Also when I look at "hardware and devices" my computer tower shows a fault triangle saying it's missing an unknown driver...so, now I'm really confused

Update:  I'm an idiot.  My USB is fine.  Just means it was empty.  On track with the memtest now.  Creating the boot file.

OK, I successfully completed the MemTest86 and it passed 4 passes with 0 errors.  Now what?  Thanks again

We had a problem that sounds similar to yours: the boot-up looked okay but then failed.  A more powerful Graphics card solved our problem.

That happened in the past year or two.  At the moment, I can't recall whether it was when we were trying to upload FC1 or get it to work with VR, but I think it was when we went to the Oculus Rift.

I'm not very computer-savvy at all but I'd suggest checking the rating of your Graphics card; it might not be quite powerful enough to run the sim?

Hope this helps.

OK Cool.  Thanks, I'll check it out

@branjo390  If your graphic card meets minimum specs, I suggest you uninstall the game and reinstall, or simply reinstall it over the current install.  You may have not had a good one originally.

Check that your fans are all running - over-heating can cause shut-downs.

Good luck S!

Ok sounds good guys, thanks.  I will double check all of these things and report back.

I have a GeForce GTX 745 video card.  I am assuming this meets the minimum requirements for the game.

J5_Baeumer you were correct.  I reinstalled the game and it now seems to be working fine.  I didn't think of that.  Thanks again for everyones help.  Case closed I guess...

Well just as a follow up, the problem still persists.  It has happened a few more times since I posted last and I am fresh out of ideas.  I reloaded the game twice and all the other things as stated above.  Any other help would be appreciated because now version 2 was just released, which I would love to buy but I can't even play this one yet.  Thanks

Salutations,

If applicable, turn off any unneeded programs that may be running in the background on system startup..

Didn't help...I don't understand this.  I can play ROF but this game shuts down....I'm really disappointed by that

Hi,

try to restore your settings in your nvidia driver or just set your il2 nvidia profile to default if you have one.

I had some crash to desktop issues before and always it was due to nvidia driver/settings or RAM overclocking.

Also try to set your RAM to default clock if you have them overclocked. (even if your benchmark is fine).

Awesome.  Thank you very much for your help (everyone for that matter).  I will do these things and report back...

Hello,  I'm not sure if I did exactly what you were talking about but whatever I did seemed to work this time for sure.  I think you were right in it being the Nvidia program somehow.  The only thing I could really find an option to restore something was the 3D graphics settings.  So, I restored them and I've been playing the game and am really happy with it now.  I Haven't been able to focus on it much for a long time because of being uprooted by moving.  I hate moving.  I also went ahead and pre-ordered Vol2.  Cant wait for that to come out.  Thanks again, and hopefully this truly is a closed case.
