VP mod - 7zip only installs first archive

Recommended Posts

I have 1946 (v 4.13.4) installed from Steam. I have selected all 16 files in the VP directory (d/led the torrent) and used 7zip to install it to my game directory but it only unzips the first archive ...001. I then get the error that it 'cannot open file as archive.'

What am I missing?

Other files might be corrupt? Btw, VP mod is made for 4.12.2m version. It won't work on 4.13.4.

Thanks. I checked the directory size and it's well over 50gig so I guess I was too dim to notice that it was extracting all the archive files.

Sorry to hear I can't use it now. Is there a way to get the older version so I can use the mods? And is it worthwhile? Haven't found it on Steam.

You can revert to the older version through Steam.

In the Steam application, right click IL-2 Sturmovik 1946 from your Steam library, then click Properties > Betas > Select the beta you would like to opt into > 4.12

Also, if you follow the instructions from the makers of the mod, you're supposed to copy and paste your game file into a separate file location, and mod the copied version. I don't advise modding your Steam version as it will likely cause problems.

Thanks for the info. If I could impose further...I can’t find a location to download the game other than from Steam. Would you be able to point me to the correct version? Thanks. I already have the VP files.

or will it work by just reverting on Steam and then moving the entire game folder out of the Steam apps directory?

That seemed to work and I have the game up and running. Looks pretty great so far.

You're not imposing at all. I'm happy to help. I ran into issues modding my Steam version of the game, which is why I hope to prevent anyone from doing so. I made the foolish mistake of modding my Steam version, which the B.A.T. modders explicitly say not to do. You always want to have one clean version and one modded version of your game. That way if anything goes wrong, you can always delete the modded version and start over with the untouched version of the game.

But, all you need to do is copy and paste the game contents into a new location, any location of your choice. I chose the Documents folder, but it's really up to you.

In file explorer, your game file should be in the following location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\IL 2 Sturmovik 1946

Simply copy the folder named "IL 2 Sturmovik 1946" and paste it into a new location, such as documents. I suggest renaming it something like "IL2 BAT" so you can distinguish the two. Let me know if I can help any further.

Sorry, I just realized that I misread your post. You don't need to redownload the game. You simply need to revert to version 4.12 from within Steam. After that, copy and paste the game file into a new location then mod that version of the game.

From within the Steam launcher, right click the game, then go to properties. From there, click "betas" and there should be a tab that says, "Select the beta that you would like to opt into," From that pulldown menu, click "4.12." After that, you don't have to do anything. Steam will automatically update your game to the version you selected. Then, follow the other steps I mentioned earlier to copy and paste your game into a new location.

Thanks. That worked! A couple of more questions. There are no quick missions in this setup. Can I download those somewhere? Also, some maps appear to be missing. Tried to do a mission in The Japan area and got the message it was missing. Did have some great mountain fights on one of the maps tho'. Much fun.

Glad you got it working. For those questions I would point you in the direction of the SAS forums. Those are the modders who worked on the VP pack and they would be able to help you further. I suggest posting in the "New Member Safety Area" which is a dedicated forum for newbie questions and anything that will be free from harsh responses.
